GARNIER, Ethel Muriel -age 85 of Halifax. It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Ethel on April 3, 2017 in Parkstone Enhanced Care Facility, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ada (Stevens) Hines. Ethel loved to work and spent 50 years as Executive Housekeeper at Government House and retired in 2006. Ethel was the recipient of four prestigious medals: The Queen’s Silver Anniversary Medal, The Canadian Centennial Medal, The Golden Jubilee Medal and the rare Silver Royal Victorian Medal presented to her by Queen Elizabeth II in 1994. She is survived by her sisters; Joyce McComiskey, Florence (Doug) McKay and Connie (Ernest) Deviller; brothers, Leonard (Carolyn) Hines, Brian (Carolyn) Hines; stepdaughter, Linda Garnier; sister in-law Janice Hines. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter; sisters, Norma Oderkirk, Doris Malone and Sharon Dauphinee; brothers, William “Billy” Hines and John (Jackie) Hines. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8pm, Thursday, April 6 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie from where a funeral service will be held 11am Friday, April 7, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations in Ethel’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Ethel may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
