Our History
Founded in 1928, Ettinger Funeral Home has been providing personal, friendly and professional care to the families of East Hants and surrounding areas for 90 + years. Ernest Ettinger, a carpenter by trade, started the business after apprenticing under John Logan, the local funeral director at the time. Mr. Ettinger’s son, J. Albert Ettinger, continued the family tradition of providing excellent service to the communities he served. Ettinger's was the first funeral home in Nova Scotia to offer limousine service to its families. After selling the business in 1980 to Wayne Hatt, Albert assisted us with funerals on a part-time basis until 2005 when he was well into his eighties. Albert passed away in April of 2013. We strive to meet the standards of service that Albert and his father set years ago. Our strong reputation has made us the place that families turn to in their time of need.
Alan Sr. and his son, Al began a new chapter in their lives when they purchased the funeral home from Service Corporation International in September 2013. They are appreciative of the training they received from their former employers. Today the needs of our customers vary greatly, but the MacLeods and their team are focused on providing compassionate service to families in their time of loss.
