Obituary of Lawrence Lennox Dunn

DUNN, Lawrence Lennox – age 85, of New Minas formerly of Belnan, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2017. Born on June 24, 1931 in Old Harry, Magdalen Islands, Quebec, he was a son of Archibald and Minnie (Chennell) Dunn.
Larry joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954, serving for 12 years before receiving a medical release in 1966. He held various jobs after that time, including rural mail carrier and Commissionaire at the Halifax International Airport.
Larry raised his family with wife Evelyn in Belnan, Hants County, where he enjoyed playing cards with the neighbours, going out for a coffee and driving around exploring the countryside. He liked watching a variety of sports such as hockey, baseball and curling, especially his beloved Leafs and Blue Jays. Larry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Montgomery Branch 133 in Enfield and at one time also served as a member of the East Hants Minor Hockey Association.
For the last six years, he and Evelyn lived with their daughter Melissa in New Minas, where he took pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He loved to talk about the accomplishments of his five children and 10 grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn; daughters Linda Dunn (Dennis) of Lantz, Susan Dunn (Clint) of Toronto, Melissa (Greg) Lee of New Minas; sons Timothy (Susan) of Portland, Maine, Ronald (Carol) of New Glasgow; grandchildren Jennifier, Leah, Katelyn, Victoria, Megan, Rebekah, Ainsley, Henry, Charlotte, William Lennox; family and friends in Newfoundland.
He was predeceased by father Archibald; mother Minnie; brothers John, Aubrey, Rupert, James, Leonard, Waldron; sister Fannie.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 19 at Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie from 2-4 p.m. Funeral service will take place at St. James’ Anglican Church, Kentville at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20. Family flowers only.
Donations in Larry’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
