Obituary of James Douglas Hirtle

HIRTLE, James Douglas, age 84, of Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on Thursday September 8, 2016. Born in Carrolls Corner, he was a son of the late James and Mable (McKenna) Hirtle. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Valerie (McLellan), Shubenacadie; sons, Ron (Denise) Hirtle, Clayton Park; Norman Hirtle (Deborah Bannister), Truro; daughters, Joanne Hirtle (Earl Caldwell), Fort Ellis; Lisa Hirtle (Peter Wolfe), Liverpool; Jennifer Hirtle, Debert; sister, Freda (Brian) Smith; brothers, Eric (Bonnie) Hirtle and Raymond Hirtle; 6 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 1 great granddaughter, 2 step granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He worked at Nova Scotia Sand and Gravel for 33 years. In his early years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Visitation 4-7pm Sunday, September 11th in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie with funeral service 2pm, Monday, September 12, 2016, in Gays River United Church, Lori Crocker, DM officiating, with a reception to follow.
