STEWART, Fern Elizabeth (Matthews)
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Fern Elizabeth Stewart of
Middle Musquodoboit at Braeside Home for Special Care, on February 23.
Born in Debert, Colchester Co., on January 23,1925, she was a daughter
of the late Earl and Iola Matthews (McCully).
Fern graduated from Truro Business College and worked at the Brookfield
Creamery before her marriage in 1949. She enjoyed many years on the
farm raising her family with her husband Seymour.
She was an active community volunteer, a member of the Riverside
United Church, Elmsvale, a life member of United Church Women's
Institute, and a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by daughters Janice White (Bruce) of Middle
Musquodoboit, Elizabeth Murray (Rob) of Dartmouth, son Dan Stewart,
Calgary, granddaughter Shanna White, Calgary, grandsons Jason White
(Cindy), Stewiacke, Mitchel Stewart, Calgary, Andrew Murray, Dartmouth,
great grandchildren Austin, Blake and Travis White. She is also survived
by brothers Alfred Matthews of Debert and Arnold (Esther) Matthews of Welland,
Ontario, sister-in-law Beulah Matthews, Bible Hill, Margaret Stewart,
Halifax, Lillian Stewart, Vancouver, brother-in-law, Stuart Carver,
Chester Grant, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Fern was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Seymour Stewart,
sisters Irene MacCallum, Beatrice Stevens and brother Chesley Matthews,
The family would like to thank Dr. Patti Snair and the staff of
Braeside for their exceptional and loving care over the past six years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Hwy 2,
Shubenacadie. A memorial service will be held at Riverside United
Church at 2pm on Tuesday, March 1, with Rev.Dr. Linda Yates officiating.
A reception to follow in the Middleton United Church.
