Obituary of Steve Joyce
JOYCE, Steven James – Lantz. In shock and with deep sadness we announce Steve’s sudden passing, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Halifax Infirmary, a few weeks shy of his 60th birthday.
Steve was born in Truro in May 1964 and grew up in Milford. He was the youngest son of Elsie and the late Burton Joyce. Steve met and married the love of his life, Brenda (Ingraham) in September 1989. Together they made a home in Lantz and raised two beautiful daughters, Amanda Joyce (Fabian) and Jenna Jean (Cory). Steve had a long and rewarding career with Air Canada, retiring in 2021. He stayed in touch with many of his cherished colleagues and always looked forward to their regular get togethers. Steve was very athletic and particularly loved to play softball, hockey and golf. He and Brenda thoroughly enjoyed their side by side and the many group adventures they were so fortunate to be a part of. Many, many great times were had at the family camp in Melrose. So many fishing, hunting and weekend get away trips over the years, culminating in unending teasing, laughter, delicious food and the best memories. Steve loved going to concerts with his girls, even though he may have been thrown out a time or two, and teaching the girls to fish on the lake at Melrose. He was the most requested and popular guest at all the girls’ gatherings. Steve had a great love for chocolate labs and wassuch a talented trainer for their family pets over the years. Steve had a kind and soft heart and wore his emotions on his sleeve. He was often in awe of Brenda’s strength in challenging times over the years. He will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter and of course his odd stutter.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, daughters, Mandy (Fabian) and Jenna (Cory), grandsons Kayden and Jaxon Jean, and honorary daughter, Dee-ann “Diddles” Hill (Dylon Agnew), in his words the ‘good one’; mother, Elsie Joyce, father-in-law Robert Ingraham; brother Les (Lori), sister-in-law, Shelley Rideout (Murray), brother-in-law, Bob Ingraham (Robin) and several nieces and nephewswho were lucky to have the coolest uncle.
Steve was predeceased by father, Burton Joyce; brothers Graham and Jeffrey, mother-in-law, Deanna Ingraham.
The family wishes to thank the incredibly kind and caring health care workers from 5.2 at Halifax Infirmary. Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Elmsdale and Shubenacadie.
