Obituary of Hazel Alberta Keyes

KEYES, Hazel Alberta age 96, of Lantz, passed away with her family by her side on February 26, 2023, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Dutch Settlement, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Muriel (Isenor) Ashley.

Hazel and her husband, Fred enjoyed many winter trips to Florida in retirement. They enjoyed country music, jamborees and visited Nashville several times. She loved to crochet, knit and sew in her younger years. Hazel was a great cook and housekeeper. She was a resident in the Eagles Nest, Magnolia for the last 5 years.

She is survived by sons, Clarey (Marjorie), Lantz;  Brent (Jo-Anna) Belnan; grandchildren, Karla (Alex) Longford, St. Lazare, QC, Mark (Kelly) Keyes, Belnan, Gregory (Sara) Keyes, Belnan, Kelly (Rob) Bitar, Belnan; great grandchildren, Sarah, Isaac, Luke, Owen, Aiden, Sofia, Simon and Sebastian; Brayden, Olivia and Jacob; brother, Stanley “Junior”; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred; sisters, Barb, Lucy and brother, Robie.

Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm, Wednesday March 1st in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie from where a funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, March 2nd. Rev.  Reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Burial will take place in the spring in Sandy Hill Cemetery, Belnan.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Eagles Nest Cottage at the Magnolia and the staff at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the care and love shown to Hazel during her time there.

Donations in Hazel’s memory may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, and mailed to 830 HIghway 277,  Dutch Settlement, B2S 2G9.
