Yves was an ecclectic man with enough contrasting experiences to make him hard to define, but I'll remember him as the most loyal, kind, honest friend who was always a true gentleman. He had the rare ability to both listen nonjudgementally with his heart and head AND be a fascinating storyteller.
I'll miss our chats and wish I had visited him more often. Whether over a coffee or spending time in his amazing healing gardens, we talked about the latest news as often as past adventures, but mainly about what mattered most ... family.
To everyone lucky enough to be a part of Yves' family (and those they loved) ... near and far... it was obvious that he loved and respected each and every one of you. As unique as Yves was, his stories told me that you all shared his honesty, work ethic, sense of humour and patience which made him such a truly good person and cherished friend.
It's reassuring to know that through Mel, Sam, Jean Guy and the wonderful grandchildren (and great grandchild) whom he spoke of with such positivity ... that Yves left the world a much better place than he found it.
The same goes for the jungle of plants that he nurtured in his retirement. It truly is a healing space which does the soul good to walk through in any season. No matter what's going on outside of his garden, a person can't help but feel lighter after being there.
There, among the spaces he created and in the stories he both told and will be a part of ....I hope Yves' spirit lives for ever.
