To all of Ferne's family,
I was so sorry to read of Ferne's passing. Though our paths have not cross in the last few years, I have fond memories of meeting her at Riverview events. She was a lovely lady to have a chat with. Her kind manner was appreciated by many I am sure, including myself. My sincerest thoughts and prayers to each of you in your loss.
Sincerely, Christine MacAskill

There’s so much to say about Ferne that you could truly write a book about her, it would be a best seller on the life and love she had for her family, friends, and God. I connected with Ferne when I got to know a little about her beliefs, the church and her love of birds and flowers but most of all the special effect she had on her family. It was my pleasure to have known her these last ten years, her family bond they share and the love she shared with everything and everyone. My Mom passed away way too young and she was very very special to me. I miss her like it was yesterday, what I would do to have another day to spend with her. With Ferne she truly was a Mother, Mom, Aunt, Grandmother, Wife and a special Mother in law. I thank her for accepting me into her family, for celebrating a special day with her son and I. I was glad that we got to celebrate many special occasions, be it anniversary, birthday, Christmas and more. To meet someone that has that same affect as my own mother is truly one of the best gifts I have been given. I will always remember you, your laughter, your smile, your green thumb, your baked goods, jams and most of all your big heart that you gave to so many. I will have beautiful memories of you and you will always hold a special place in my heart. Your loving daughter in law, Helen.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Ferne's passing. Fred, when you phoned last week we were brought to tears because the news of Ferne's death reminded us of so very many wonderful memories we shared with both Ferne and yourself traveling around the world together. However the most memorable trip for us was when our entire family traveled to your beloved Maritimes where you, Ferne and your children showed us such a wonderful time. Our kids still remember this as one of their favourite times growing up.
Ferne was such a loving and caring person not only to her family but to everyone she met. This coupled with a marvelous personality and a sometimes wicked sense of humour will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.
Again our most sincere and deepest condolences to you and your entire family.
Kirk & Dedie Hudson and family.

We are saddened to hear of Ferne's passing. As a family we met the Barton's when we all moved onto the same street, opposite sides, and formed wonderful friendships that extended beyond moving away from each other. We will always remember Ferne for her wonderful approach to all things, her fantastic sense of humor, patience, generosity and love of family. Truly a remarkable woman with a great capacity for living and sharing life. We hope all your memories and times shared help you at this difficult time.

My dear friend I will miss you. We worked together for many years at Fairview Villa had lots of interesting times and laughs.
We enjoyed just sitting down and talking for hours about almost anything. We would walk around her gardens and she would help me pick out plants that would work for our space in Cape Breton.
We loved to play cards together many exciting moments and lots of laugher So enjoyed our fishing trip to Cape Breton.
She loved people, had a beautiful smile and showed her kindness to the world.
She was dedicated to the clothing bank at the church, I went with her a few nights when I stayed with them for a month.
She was a kindred spirit to me. I will truly miss her. I will cherish the memories.
Fred you and Ferne had something special. Take care Fred you guys did so much together so many memories
I will miss her dearly but she is with the angels just as she was an angel on earth
