I only heard today that Betty was no longer with us. She was the most beautiful and talented person I have ever known. Betty gave me numerous beautiful plants and I often think of her when I’m in my garden. My sincere condolences to her dear family.

My deepest condolences to Betty's family. She was the bearer of laughter and good times in the first three years of our days at Acadia. We went to Expo '67 together and stood for one another at our weddings. Betty and her children lived on the same street as I in PMQs, Shearwater, and was the guiding hand when I was about to give birth. What a talent! She was so well versed in knowing all the plants and flowers and took the most stunning photos of that flora and the visitors to her gardens...........chipmunks, guinea hens and many, many birds. She knew all the birds by name, too. There will, in my opinion, never be another human like her. Rest well, my friend.

I extend my sympathy to all of the family. Betty was one of a kind. Her garden creativity was outstanding and all come from the natural state. The sense of humor brings smiles and out loud chuckles. She will be missed, but left a very memorable mark.

Betty was an inspiration to the Friends of the Garden, bringing her creativity, her curiosity, and wonderful sense of humour. Very generous, she gave many of us seedlings that will continue to remind us of her each year. To tour her garden was a wonderful experience, to see the stonewalls she had built herself, and to witness how she designed the various sections as her creativity overflowed. She had a recipe for rhubarb juice and gingerale, and I will be raising a glass to dear Betty when the rhubarb is ready.

The news of Betty’s passing is very sad to those who had the pleasure of knowing what a fine person she was. I had the great fortune of working with her many years and know her as an intelligent, curious, brave, kind, courageous and honest person who worked hard and loved a good laugh. She always spoke fondly of her family, and was a fiercely loving mother to her children. She opened her home on several memorable occasions to her co-workers, and encouraged people to come visit and enjoy her hospitality. Although after retirement our paths seldom crossed, I will always hold her warmly in my esteem. My sincere condolences to her children, and the rest of her family.
Sincerely,
Doris Gates

My heartfelt condolences to Betty's family. I got to know Betty from working at the Nova Scotia hospital. She was an amazing woman. She had an ability to do anything she put her mind to, including splitting rocks for the entertainment of others (and for her rock walls) and growing & maintaining the most beautiful garden. I will truly miss her and her wry sense of humour. Melanie Barrett

Our sincerest condolences to Betty's family. We have so many wonderful memories of reunions spent at Betty's. Her gardens were always a delight to see and explore. We were so fortunate to have Betty, along with sisters and brother, visit our place in August 2019. Her wonderful open smiling presence will be missed.

So very sorry for your loss. To me Betty was 1 of those ‘larger than life’ individuals who accomplished so much & did so much for everyone she held dear - children, family, friends. Walking through her gardens is a true reflection of who she was & all she accomplished, no matter how challenging, in her life. Who, except those who were a part of her life, could believe 1 woman could single handedly create the amazing place her gardens came to be. Deepest condolences, Cheryl

Betty and I reconnected after many years before Covid-19 shut down our plan to meet for lunch at Hurricane Heidi's. Being Betty, she did not hint our time could be limited by her health. Quickly, our comfort level was as it was in high school. She was one of the best as you in her family know. Of course, Betty had remarkable parents whom I came to admire after countless trips to the greenhouses for tomatoes and cucumbers and I am sure Betty in her turn was a marvellous mother. My heart aches for you and for me, I regret missing the chance to build on a true, longtime friendship.
