Obituary of Derek Melvin Joseph Hines

HINES, Derek Melvin Joseph -age 41 of Oldham passed away suddenly on September 15, 2020. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Phyllis Cole and the late Larry Hines.

Derek worked out west on the oil rigs for 10 years prior to moving back to Nova Scotia and becoming an employee at The Shaw Group, Lantz. He was a loving and devoted father and loved spending time with his family, especially his girls. Derek played hockey in East Hants for many years and was a devoted Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan. He also enjoyed spending time at his family’s camp on Cousin’s lake. Derek was a jack-of-all-trades and could do any job, including fixing up many sheds and gearing them up with wood stoves; the perfect “man cave”. Derek is now with his best friend, his beloved grandfather with whom he had spent a huge part of his life with.

Derek is survived by his mother, Phyllis and her husband, Fred Harris; his partner, Cheyenne; Kelli (the mother of his children); children, Tierra, Bella, Allie and Brandon; grandmother, Isabelle Cole; several aunts and uncles; special uncle, Trevor Cole; many cousins; he will also be missed by his fur baby, Khloe.

Besides his father, Derek was predeceased by his grandfather, Gerald Cole; grandparents, Melvin and Helen Hines; aunt, Joanna Murray.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4pm and 6-8pm Sunday September 20th in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday September 21st in St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Enfield, Father Michael Walsh officiating. Interment to follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
