Heather Fogo posted a condolence

On behalf of the military and civilian members of the office of the Assistant Judge Advocate General – Atlantic Region, I extend our sincerest condolences on the recent passing of Lieutenant-Colonel (ret’d) Mackay. He was a wonderful leader and lawyer. He was well-respected for his mentorship, professionalism, and calm. He played a very significant role in helping many legal officers become confident operational lawyers both on deployment and back in Canada, particularly at our AJAG office. To honour his memory, we are supporting the Legion. Our thoughts are with your family.
Take care.
Sincerely, Commander Heather Fogo and the AJAG Atlantic Team

Major-General (ret’d) Blaise Cathcart,QC (former JAG) posted a condolence

Dear Michele and Family,
It was with deep deep sadness that I learned of Louis’s recent passing. I offer my sincere condolences. I knew Louis very well as I worked with him as a colleague and friend in the JAG. We shared may tough legal issues and many tough operational challenges but Louis was always a rock. I always counted on him for honest, professional and common sense advice. He always delivered. Of course, Louis was also well respected for his humour and his compassion. No matter how serious or tense the situation, Louis always offered a dry humorous comment or a calm understanding that lightened the moment. I cannot believe he is gone. He was far too young to leave us. While you may be experiencing some dark days, please know that Louis was a a bright light, a role model and leader for many in the JAG and the CAF. He left a lasting legacy of quality work, dedication, honesty and love for his family. I thank him, you and the entire family for his service and your many sacrifices for the JAG, the CAF and Canada. He will never be forgotten. Take care and Fiat Justitia ( let just prevail). Major-General (ret’d) Blaise Cathcart,QC

So sorry for your loss. You know that Louis was a great brother-in-law and we had so many good times with the both of you. I can still see the smiles on Julia and David's faces when he would pick them up and play with them. He had a great love for all of his grandchildren and was so proud to be a grandfather. I can remember meeting him for the first time in Ottawa. He was in uniform and I thought, "what a gentleman" and he truly was. We were so happy to have had Louis in our lives for the time that we did. We will forever hold in our heats all the good conversations and great laughs with him. He will be missed.
Love you Louis
Brian and Susan
