Cora was a political and business leader and inspiration to what one person can accomplish. She lives on in the love and memories of her family. I often hear about Cora from her son-in-law, Wayne, (my treasured friend and golfing partner) of Cora's influence and love of family. Kathryn and I send our condolences. A celebration of life well lived indeed!

I knew her when I was at The Hants Journal and after that. She was tireless. She was everywhere. It could be a breakfast meeting, then stopping by the businesses, constituency business, then visiting someone who was ill and on to some fundraiser or evening meeting. She was one of those old-time politicians who seemed to know everyone in the riding, their family connections and pets. East Hants would be a lot different if not for her.

Bertha, Wayne , David and families;
My condolences to you all ...you were fortunate to have her for many more years than most.
I knew of your mother long before arriving in Shubenacadie, because my mother was also a Certified Clerk and way back in the late seventies, the Pharmacists of Nova Scotia were planning significant changes to the role of these Certified Clerks. So ,they banded together and form the Certified Clerks Association of N.S. Your mother became the President and my mother was the Treasurer. Every time the subject came up, Mom never stopped speaking highly of your mother...and I can tell you that stood out to me , because my mother did not suffer fools well!
Sorry for your loss!

Wade and I send our sympathy to you as you grieve the passing of your Mother and Grandmother. Having
grown up in Shubenacadie, I have great memories of having "Mrs. Etter" as a leader in church groups I attended
I remember her kindness as she invited us to her home to do craft projects! She was an awesome lady;
her vitality and zest for life now lives on though you, her children and grandchildren.

Bertha & Wayne - Just a note of sympathy in loosing Cora. I recently found some "diaries" of Mum's where she had recorded that Cora lived with us in the school year of 1941/42 and took her grade X1 in Shubenacadie. She went home on the weekends. I think she did some "child" sitting so Mum could be available to attend events in the evenings. I like to think that that particular year laid some foundation for the great work she undertook in later life. She was a trailblazer indeed and I feel privileged to have had her as my "big" sister for that year! Blessings to you and your family. Joyce Dillman

How well I remember Cora as one very intelligent, energized, capable, kind and interesting person. My condolences to all who loved her, and to whom she offered much love and compassionate service, in so many ways. I still think of the summer I spent at the store in Shubie as my favourite community pharmacy 'gig', not only for its opportunity for personally satisfying professional expression, but likely mainly because of the wonderful conversations in which Cora and I often would engage. She was a grand woman.

Pat and Leroy and Family When I read your Mother's obituary I was reminded of a story that happened many years ago. There was an auction at the Cornwallis Inn and among the items being offered were many place settings and companion pieces of Cornwallis Inn dinnerware. Your mother purchased them all. When I inquired about these purchases I was told by your mother that the purchases were an "investment" in a fairly blunt manner. I did not forget! My sympathies for your loss - I remember your mother quite fondly. Mike Forse

Dear David and Bertha,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of your mom. She was certainly a prominent person in our community and beyond. As a young girl growing up in the community, and going into the "Shubenacadie Drug Store", I was always in awe of Cora looking so professional in the white lab coat attire, as Mac's pharmacy clerk and wife. She certainly was a role model for young women, always looking her finest, walking tall, and having a strong determination to succeed.
May your fond memories of your mom help ease you through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Diana and Dave MacPhee

Dear cousins,
Please accept sincerest condolences from me & my small part of the large Brown clan. Cora is unforgettable. She and her cousin Billy (Dad) often enjoyed the odd verbal jousting match, and she would light the place up when she came for a visit at the farm. She was my first employer, when she hired me to work as a teenager at the Wildlife Park Gift Shop. I'll never forget her energy and example as a woman in leadership. May the love she shared with you embrace you now and may the light she shared with everyone continue to shine.

A gracious lady, accomplished, brave, compassionate, well-loved. Took time to teach us the finer points of Bridge (with great good humour), and helped me negotiate red tape when sending a package to my peace-keeping husband in Europe, years ago. I loved that she grasped my hand and held it, and smiled her beautiful smile when I went to visit her at Bertha's. A joy, and a life lived so very well. Will remember her always with love and deep respect.

Please accept my sincere sympathy in the passing of a remarkable woman, dear to the hearts of her family and friends. I didn't know her very well, mostly through the pride of her parents, my 'Queen Street Mum" and "Grandaddy" when I lived and worked in Truro in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I knew Cora & Jim, Avery and Jimmy - they were my family away from home and Cora never hesitated to boast of her daughter Cora's accomplishments. I felt like I knew her well.
