I always look forward to seeing Bruce each summer when he visits Skiff Lake and spends time with his cousin Jim Crocco. A very engaging, articulate and energetic man, I enjoyed talking to him about past Skiff Lake experiences, and was always interested to hear of his life in Nova Scotia. I looked forward to seeing more of Bruce as a retired Physician spending time at Skiff Lake and sharing the passion we both have for water skiing, and simply gathering at the lake with people we have known all our lives. I feel a profound loss to the Skiff Lake community. We send our deepest sympathy to Bruce's family and friends.

Dear Lillian, Elizabeth and Mary:
I was so stunned to hear about Bruce's passing. My God.
In my short time spent with him, almost 10 years ago now, it was clear that he was a "great guy".
He had a tangible warmth and humility - which really came across in my first meeting with him.
He was also quick with a smile...which invited people to be comfortable.
Take care Montgomerys

There are no words to express the loss that you must be felling. Bruce was an amazing man and will be missed greatly by an entire community. He was a trusted friend, a great defence man (glad I was playing with him and not against him lol), he was a doctor like no other and always there for a fella no matter the circumstances.

It was a real jolt and a great sadness to hear of Bruce's passing. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to all of his family. He will be greatly missed.
Bruce and I met in kindergarten and were classmates from grade seven to twelve. Bruce was a great friend.
He was a high energy, positive person always ready for a new adventure. Unfortunately after high school our lives went in different directions. Memories with Bruce are many, especially since we had a shared passion for hockey, whether it was on the ice,on the road or watching big games. As a hockey teammate I recall that we were at a tournament where Bruce had a puck pierce just below his lower lip and needed stitches so I accompanied him to the hospital. Bruce was unhappy with the doctor's work because he said they were too tight and caused stitch marks. It is not surprising that Bruce became a physician because I'm sure that he thought that he could do better, although a surgeon would have been good choice for someone with such a steady hand.
It is my hope that everyone's memories will comfort in celebrating Bruce's life.

Dear Lillian, Mary and Elizabeth, last Friday morning we couldn’t have been more shocked and devastated learning the news of Bruce’s passing. Not even 5 months into his retirement and then this. We are beyond belief. George of course knew Bruce as friend and colleague for over 35 years. In more recent years I got to know him through our Christmas parties were he enthusiastically joined his colleagues singing Christmas carols and playing charades. He talked to me about you, his family ,with enormous pride and lots of love. When I saw him at the clinic he always carried a smile and showed genuine interest in our life. His patients loved him and he was also well loved and respected by his colleagues and staff at the Elmsdale medical centre. The good die young they say and it’s true. He was way too young. George and I wish you all the strength you need to try to cope with his tragic loss and please remember we are only a phone call away. Sending you virtual hugs . George and Stella Burden

We were so very sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. We were friends with Bruce back in our high school days in Woodstock and have lots of great memories of good times with Bruce.
We lost touch with him after high school, which was unfortunate as we lived close by in Halifax, but when we did cross his path it was if no time had passed at all. Laurie recalls all the hockey games he played with Bruce in high school, and we had a good opportunity to catch up with him when the Woodstock High hockey team was inducted into the Woodstock Sports Hall of Fame back in 2009. It was so much fun talking about all the memories of days gone by.

Dear Family,
I want you to know how shocked and saddened I was to hear of Bruce's passing.
I first saw Dr. Bruce, at the Medical Clinic in Elmsdale, when I was 16 years old. I am now 49.
Dr. Bruce treated so many members of my family, as well as my Mom, Shirley, who passed away from breast cancer.
I remember the day he called our home to give Mom the diagnosis. Mom could tell that it was very difficult for Bruce, to give her that news. He was her doctor, from the time he arrived at the clinic, until her death in 2006.
That was the kind of doctor he was. He was very caring and compassionate with his patients. He was a good doctor and a good man.
I am so sorry that Bruce lost his life, just as a new chapter of his life was beginning. It seems very unfair.
Please know that your husband/father, had touched so many people's lives in the community.
My deepest sympathies,

We are so very sorry to hear of your dad's passing.
His obituary certainly speaks to his enjoyment for life and family. While we have not ever met the rest of your family, you are a shining example of some of the most beautiful things in his life.
It sounds as though your dad was a wonderful doctor to his patients. He has certainly imparted the gift; of helping and caring for others; in you.
Having had you give me back my life through your physiotherapy, the apple has not fallen far from the tree of compassion and being there for others. You are a true humanitarian. I'm certain your dad is very proud of you and of all your accomplishments.
Your dad will continue to watch over you and your family, as you experience life, and all that it has to offer.
It seems you have a lot of happy memories of your dad to which you are holding tight. These will forever be soft footprints upon your heart, which will remain with your always.

Lillian, I always thought of Bruce as my friend first and doctor second. I would tell people that I had an appointment to see him, so that he could check me over and I could then tell him a new joke that I had been saving for him. I remember when he first came to Elmsdale, I was then running the Gentlemen's/Oldtimers hockey, and you called me to see if he could join. I asked what kind of player he was, and you answered that you didn't think that he was very good. Bruce and I would laugh over that often. he helped me survive a heart attack, and bouts of PTSD, along with other aches and aliments as I got older, and I was always grateful that He was there. So much so, that after I moved to Truro, I kept him on as my physician. i was saddened when he informed me that he was retiring, but wished him a bright and wonderful future. When I learned of his death, I cried like a baby, and is my habit, when I lose good friends and old shipmates, I raised a glass of rum to his safe and speedy trip to heaven. May you and the girls have nothing but fond memories of Bruce's time here on Earth, as will the remainder of us. Peace be with you........

Lillian and family,
We were so saddened to hear about Bruce passing. The positive impact he had on the members of our community will never be forgotten.
He was a kind, caring and compassionate man who was such an integral part of our family’s well being for almost 30 years, guiding us through some very difficult times. Always being the constant in our lives who we could count on.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Elizabeth and Mary. We hope that you find peace in knowing the difference he made to so many lives.

Forever grateful to Bruce for the care he gave my parents, even made calls to the house to see Dad. Being new to the area about 1989 and was not even a patient at the clinic he came to the house to see my son as I was not able to get to the clinic. Bruce was a wonderful caring doctor and person highly thought of my all. Hugs to he family

I was shocked to the core and deeply saddened to learn of Bruce's passing. We went all through public school together and were fellow Skiff Lakers. We spent a lot of fun summer hours waterskiing in those days. Though I haven't seen him in a few years, all of my memories of him are of a smart, thoughtful, understated man who was a genuinely good soul. In every picture of him in my mind he's wearing his trade mark smile. A fine man gone too soon. Condolences to Lillian and their girls, and to Jan and the rest of the extended family.

We learned to swim, make forts, lose our fathers tools in the woods, build a hydroplane that wouldn’t float, waterski in a pyramid with my brother Bob on our shoulders, have friendly rock fights ( sorry about the scar on his lip) .. all good memories of growing up with a very special person.
