Please share a memory of Terry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ROSS, Terrence David “Terry”, of Lantz. Sadly Terry passed away in the early morning hours of December 31 at the age of 68 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Milford he was the son of the late Roy and Harriet (Carroll) Ross. Terry worked for 30 years for MT&T and Bell Aliant in various jobs in Construction, Installation & Repair and retired in 2001 as Superintendent of Construction. Always looking to keep busy, Terry worked another 13 years at Jazz Air, in Building Maintenance, retiring again in 2015. In his younger years he relished outdoor activities with friends and family. He played softball for Andy’s As, Lantz Athletics and Lantz Blue Jays where his keen eye made short stop the perfect position to engage the opposing team. Coached by Andy Ashley, Bill Davison, Kenny McKenna, Rodney Peters and Russell Stoddart he loved to rehash the old games and delighted in greeting former teammates for a few memories. Terry also played darts in the Shubenacadie River Dart Association. Many dart nights started with a warm up with Charlie Ashley and then off to the game. As a 25 year member of the Fox Hollow Golf Club he played golf with Ron Truman, Jim MacKay and many other members and enjoyed every game with his sons on numerous courses and endless rounds. For the past two years, he played in the Senior Golf League and also recorded his second hole-in-one this summer. He volunteered as assistant for his sons’ pursuits in soccer, softball and hockey. He was often found on the sidelines giving advice warranted or otherwise. He would not miss an occasion to see the boys play, win or lose; keen eyesight was not always welcomed by sons. Of special enjoyment were annual trips to Shaw’s Lake to John Dillman’s cottage. Since the 80’s Terry and his brothers booked the first weekend of hunting season every year. Some hunting was involved, as well as crib, stories of past hunts and a few beverages. Terry took special pride in his yard work and faithfully pursued each and every dandelion that showed its happy face. His keen eye trimmed the hedge level despite its rapid growth, and his small but bountiful garden earned praise from sons on the way to the house from school. Terry often took on pet projects, one project was his version of the “Zamboni”. Built in the shed the barrel with drop down arms, and skis was used to flood the ice on the Horsfall’s pond, the best outdoor ice surface in Lantz. Terry is survived by his wife, Barbara Ross (Annand). Sons and daughters–in-law, Jonathan (Iris), Yarmouth; Mark (Jadine Paw), Calgary; and Luke (Rebecca), New Glasgow. His always entertaining grandchildren, Madyson, Tanner and Kaiden gave him great stories to share with family and anyone else that had a few minutes. He loved their prospective of life, and was very proud in all of their accomplishments, which include Highland Dance, Scouts and Kaiden as he masters sitting up by himself; siblings, Roy “Bus” (Marjorie), Chaswood; Carl (Judy), St Albert, AB; Estella (Barrie) Woodworth, Halifax; Donald (Shirley), Hardwood Lands; Mary Jane Peterson, Shubenacadie; Kenneth (Jo-Anne), Milford.
