Obituary of Betty Ashley

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

ASHLEY, Jane Elizabeth “Betty “ – Elmsdale/Lantz.  It is with great sadness our mother passed away peacefully at the Mira Long Term Care Facility in Truro on October 20, 2019, at the age of 90. Born in Stewiacke, she was the daughter of the late Foster and Norah ( Brothwell ) Vibert.

Growing up and schooled in Stewiacke, she later attended Normal College in Truro becoming a teacher and began teaching grade school in Dutch Settlement. There she met her husband, Oran, and leaving her job, she settled down to raise their family of 7 children in Elmsdale. A life-long homemaker, her work ethic and dedication to her family were shining examples to her children as they stepped out and started families of their own. Missed will be her homemade bread and rolls and especially her molasses cookies which have been enjoyed over the years by family and friends. Mom had a great love of gardening which she did up until 2018. She was a member of the Anglican Parish of Lantz and her faith was very important to her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Oran; parents, Foster and Norah Vibert, and brother, Jim; sister-in-law, Isabel and life- long sister, Catherine MacKay

She is survived by her children, Jim (Helen), Patty (Kenny), Harley (Trudy), Michael  (Gaye), Isabel (John), Peter (Laureen), Stephen “Charlie” (Rose), 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie.

A celebration of life service will take place 2:30 Wednesday October 23rd  at St. George’s Anglican Church in Dutch Settlement. Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating.  A reception will follow at the Riverline Activity Centre, Dutch Settlement.

Family flowers only but donations in her memory may be made to the Parish of Lantz, the Alzheimer’s Society, Diabetes Canada or a charity of choice. The family would like to extend our thanks to the Mira and the people who took such great care of Mom especially in the last weeks of her life.
