Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

MACINTOSH, Joan of Truro. It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan MacIntosh announces her passing peacefully at home on May 5, 2019, surrounded by her loving daughters.

She was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband, Donald Mansfield MacIntosh; her parents, Harold and Madeline Tattrie; and her sister, Ardith Kuhn. She will be forever missed and fondly remembered by her four daughters, Paige (Steve) Gertridge, and children Kira and Erin; Carmen MacIntosh (Jim DeWolfe), and children, Dwayne, Amanda, Ryan, Ashley, Kelly and Julie; Dawn (Ian) MacFadden and sons, Ross, Corey and David; and Susan MacIntosh (Larry Swinamer) and her son Noah;  and her 19 great grandchildren.

Joan was born in Truro, Nova Scotia on November 28, 1930. She was an active member of her community, serving as the first President of the Halifax, Bedford Basin PC Women’s Association (1979) and member of the IODE.

In addition to a devoted family, Joan had many close friends in her life. She will be missed by the members of her bridge club where she will be remembered for her “enthusiasm” for winning, and the hooking club where she pursued another of her favourite hobbies.

The family expresses its heart felt appreciation for the expert and compassionate care provided to Joan in her final days by the staff of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, the Palliative Care Team, the VON, and family friends, all of whom made it possible for Joan to spend her final days at home surrounded by friends and family, and her dear dog, Lindsay.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends on Monday, May 13th   from 2-4pm at the family home, 21 Whitman Court, Truro.

Donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society at www.cehhospice.org or call at (902) 893-3265).

The family encourages those so inclined to honour Joan’s memory and generous heart to extend a kindness to someone in need.
