Obituary of Nina B. Turner

Please share a memory of Nina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

TURNER, Nina Belle (nee Preeper) – 95, of Lantz, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 28, 2019.  Born in 1924, she entered into this world as a shining light.  For the past 3.5 years she has resided at the Magnolia Continuing Care Centre in Enfield.  Despite suffering with dementia in her later years, she always had a loving spirit, could bring a smile to anyone’s face and always maintained her sense of humour and love of music and singing, with “You Are My Sunshine” being one of her favourites.

In her early years, she owned and operated Turner’s Variety Store and later the Sew & Crafts Store, both in her hometown of Lantz, which she continued to be well known for across all local communities.  It is by no surprise that she was the true definition of a crafter.  Throughout her lifetime she dabbled in needlepoint, embroidery, knitting and crocheting, rug hooking, quilting, and even scrapbooking!  But quilting was her true passion, and she made them all by hand – the authentic way!

She was small but mighty, with the bluest of eyes and purest of hearts.  She loved her family endlessly – we were her whole world, and she made sure we knew it.

Nina was the beloved wife of her predeceased husband, George Sr. who she endearingly called Buster, as he was commonly known.  She waited 44 long years to meet him again and now we know she is finally reunited with the love of her life.  She was also predeceased by her parents, Alton and Nora Preeper; siblings, Doris, Thelma, Leroy, Rita, and Aubrey, who all passed at birth; sister, Theresa (Laird) Thiel; brother, Bill Preeper; brother in law, Henry Perrott.

She is survived by her siblings, Allan (Lorraine) Preeper, Sheila (Fred) Newman, Dorothy Perrott, Elwood “Jeep” (Juanita) Preeper; her two cherished sons, Richard, George (Cathy); grandchildren, Matthew and Jenna Turner, Tyler and Samuel Turner; sister-in-law, Peggy, as well as many other adoringly loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We would like to extend our sincerest thank you to Elk Court Nursing Home and the Magnolia Continuing Care Centre for all the love and care they gave to our mother over the last few years.

No visitation by request.  A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, March 4 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, the Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating. A reception will follow in Ettinger Funeral Home hospitality area. Interment will be in the spring.
