Obituary of Howard Arthur Reader

READER, Howard Arthur “Artie” – age 88 of Georgefield, passed away January 22, 2019 in The Mira, Truro.

Born in Five Mile River, he was a son of the late Arthur and Lena (Dixon) Reader.

Artie was an incredibly kind and gentle man. He loved to sing and was quick with a smile. He was a great handyman. Artie loved to dance. He was a wonderful storyteller and enjoyed reminiscing about older times. Anyone lucky enough to be in Artie’s presence always left with a smile.

Artie will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruth (O’Toole); stepchildren, Starla, Michael, (Doreen), Nancy (Jack), Howard and chosen child, Shawn White;           grandchildren, Stephanie, Earl, Ryan, Mariah, Brianna, Matti, Cianna; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Èlody and Beau; brothers, Donald (Shirley), David (Lynn); sister, Donna (James) Chambers; sisters in law, Donna Kent and Erma Hiltz; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean (Ryan); sisters, Minnie Reader and Audrey Reader.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held 2pm Friday, January 25th in Ettinger Funeral Home 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Glenn Eason officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Interment will be held at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit.

 

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at The Mira for their exceptional care of Artie.
