Obituary of Eugene Laughlin MacIsaac

MacISAAC, Eugene Laughlin - Age 84, of Enfield. It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gene while surrounded by family on January 17, 2019 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary Site, Halifax.

Born in Boston, MA, he was a son of the late Hector and Theresa (Fraser) MacIsaac.

At the age of 3, after the death of his mother, Gene and his nine-year-old sister, May T. were brought to Piper’s Cove, Cape Breton where they were raised by his mother’s relatives, Duncan and Mary Anne MacNeil. He left home at 19 to work in Montreal with Northern Telecom and retired from there as a regional manager after 35 years of service. He held a life-long affinity for Piper’s Cove; returning every summer to spend time boating on the Bras d’Or Lakes, listening to Scottish music at the local ceilidhs and exploring his Gaelic heritage.

He is survived by his wife, Georgina (MacNeil); daughter, Gina, Moncton; son, Paul (Amy), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Jake, Zoe, Keenan and Duncan; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Linda (Rose); sisters, May T. and Kathleen, in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Tuesday, January 22^nd at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. Funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday, January 23^rd at St. Bernard’s Church, Enfield; Father Michael Walsh officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Enfield Fire Hall.

Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia (in Linda’s honour) or to the Sandy Hill Cemetery, 1351 Highway 214, Belnan NS B2S 2R1.
