Obituary of Thomas Arthur Maguire

MAGUIRE, Thomas Arthur “Tom” – Enfield/ Milford, age 89, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Marion, of 71 years by his side on December 22, 2018.
Tom was born in 1929 in Shubenacadie to the late Curtis and Hattie (Dillman) Maguire. An avid outdoorsman from an early age, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tom left school at 16 to work in his father’s logging business. His 32 year career with Elmsdale Landscaping gave him opportunity to indulge his lifelong passion for vehicles. Once retired, Tom enjoyed creating original woodwork pieces for his friends and family. He also spent many pleasant hours working in his garden and birdwatching. Tom looked forward to his weekly worship with Marion at Milford Lantz United Church.
Tom was a devoted husband and father whose great love and affection was returned by his “kids”.
In addition to his wife, Marion (Nelson), he is survived by daughters, Donna (Tom) Goode, Diane (Syd) Florian; sons, Tom (Leslie), Robert (Karan), and Eric (Kelly); eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kerri), Joanne (David), Tracey (John), Mark (Melanie), Amy (Adrian), Adam (Laura), Robbie, Michael (Emma); ten great grandsons and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by sisters in law, Irene Huybers, Anne Conrod, Audrey Nelson; brother in law, Gary Nelson.
Being the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by six brothers, Clarence, Bernard, Terrance, Patrick, Floyd, Clyde; and five sisters, Eva, Jean, Flossie, Mabel, and Daisy.
The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Dad’s palliative care team and to Dad’s sister in law, Anne for her constant support and care.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2pm Friday, December 28 in Milford Lantz United Church, Rev. Nancy Ritchie officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private burial in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
