It was with great sadness that I read of Ernie's passing this week. I had the pleasure of meeting Ernie on the first day I went to work at Shaw Resources in 1989. He was one of the first to look me up, stick out his hand and offer to help in any way he could. That welcome from the gentle man from Neil's Harbour stayed with me for the years until Ernie retired and to this day. He went about his work in a quiet, professional manner and saved the fun for break and lunch times. I so looked forward to the stories of his exploits as only he could tell them. We would be rolling on the floors some days. Ernie was a friend to all who knew him and he will be missed by both family and friends alike. To son Dale, grand daughter Kelly and all the family my deepest condolences. Gordon Dickie

So sad to hear of Ernie's passing. I remember the first time I met Ernie, he was coaching hockey. Between him and Ivan Ettinger they made great efforts to see that the young boys of Shubie had the opportunities to enjoy the sport and their efforts are greatly appreciated. To Ernie's Family, I'm so sadden to hear of Ernie's death. I remember him as being a very nice and quiet man. I worked with Ernie at Nova Scotia Sand & Gravel. He was an amazing person. The next few days will be hard but remember you have your memories and family to help you through these days. He is now with your Mom and they will always be with you in your memories. Ernie was a gentle soul. He took the time to talk with kids and always made a big deal of them. Halloween at their house in Shubie was a stop we never missed. Ernie also had great penmanship.
