Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BROWN, Joyce B. (Tanner) - Age 85, of Truro, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. She was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Custance) Tanner, and grew up on their family farm in Hardwoodlands.
Joyce completed her high school studies at the Colchester County Academy in Truro and graduated as a nurse from the Halifax Children's Hospital in 1953. She nursed with the VON before moving to the Colchester Regional Hospital, where she worked for many years. Bill and Joyce were married August 17, 1954 and settled down in Shubenacadie. They had a wonderful life together that included a strong work ethic, parenting three children and watching their family grow. They delighted in countless family gatherings and fun times with good friends in Shubie and more recently at Wynn Park. They also enjoyed traveling to Europe, trips to Florida and old time dancing. In addition to nursing, Joyce contributed to her community through her commitment to Shubenacadie United Church, the UCW and forty years in the Choir, and through her thoughtful deeds for neighbours and those in need. She was a wonderful cook and would never show up empty handed. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mom and grandmother, a generous friend and a great neighbour.
Joyce is survived by sons, Blaine and Bruce (Barbara) Brown; daughter, Robyn (David) Brown-Hewitt; grandsons, Nathan and Charles Hewitt and Zachary Brown; her twin sister Jean (George) Ellis; sisters-in-law, Blanche Tanner, Barbara (Douglas) Frame and Marjorie Brown; many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and dancing partner of 58 years William W. Brown; brother, Earle Tanner; sister, Shirley (Douglas) MacPhee.
