Obituary of Ronald Thomas Kelly

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

KELLY, Ronald Thomas – age 72 of Shubenacadie passed away November 10, 2016 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by family. Ronald was a son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Kenefick) Kelly. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Brenda (Darris); son, Glen (Happiness Mitchelle), MB; brothers, Bruce (Lana), Truro; Brian, Lr. Sackville; Gary (Mary) , Lantz; sister, Diana (Wayne) MacDonald, Lr. Sackville and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph. Ron retired from Dalhousie University after 31 years of service, a job he truly enjoyed. He resided in Admiral Rock on his beloved estate for 44 years. He enjoyed cutting the grass with the aroma filling the house. He liked landscaping and took great pride and care in his work, remembering the names of all the plants. With the same passion he observed and took care of wildlife. He could name the different birds, butterflies and moths and awaited their return each year. He had numerous books on horticulture and orinthology which he referred to often. He enjoyed the smell and beauty of the forest and discovering what trees the owls had claimed. He and his wife spent many enjoyable hours over the years watching meteor showers from the yard. We were thrilled to see our first Luna moth, only to discover they were common in NS. He was also extremely knowledgeable with anything mechnical or electrical. He enjoyed listening to his son’s and daughter in-law’s stories of life, work and travel abroad and their life in Manitoba. Ron looked forward to playing cards and attending special family events. He appreciated the morning sunlight filling the bedroom and watching the rising moon pass over his bed. Ron had a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed. Ron saved his entire wedding ensemble, which he wore only once. He informed me twice over the last 7 years that he wanted to be buried in it. His request has been fulfilled. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubencadie. There will be a Celebration of Ron’s Life held 2-4pm Sunday, November 20, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Seton, 125 Metropolitan Drive, Lr. Sackville. Donations in memory may be made to Dalhousie University Cancer Research Program, 6299 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 4R2. Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Ron may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
