Obituary of George Edward Lacey

LACEY, George Edward, age 77 passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, November 11, 2016 at The Brentwood Ponds in Brentwood, NS.
George was born in Milford Station and was a resident of the community for the majority of his life. After his retirement in 2006, he and Emily travelled to Florida in November to enjoy the warmth and sunshine until May of each year. George was an accomplished community leader and business entrepreneur. He was very proud to be involved with community development in Milford and spent countless hours of volunteerism with several community organizations over the years. If something needed to be done and George had the time, you could always count on him. He had a diverse career working at several jobs until 1988, when he founded George Lacey Enterprises Ltd. He loved owning and operating his own concrete business.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of sixty years, Emily (Simmonds); his children; Doug (Lori)Lacey, Debbie (Roy) MacKenzie, David (Wendy) Lacey, Danita (Jim) Newman; his six grandchildren; Chad, Lacey, Cody, Fred, Cyle, Cari and their families; his sister, Jean Scothorn and sister in law, Shirley Lacey, several nieces and nephews. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother in law, Eric (Edna) Simmonds and his close community neighbors and friends here and in Florida.
George was predeceased by his parents Willard and Bella (Aitken) Lacey; his brother, Roy Lacey; his sister, Elizabeth Himmelman and his infant son, Derek.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home Shubenacadie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 15 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the Milford Recreation Centre. This will be a drop-in, casual affair.
