Obituary of Shawn Cassista

CASSISTA, Shawn E., age 52 of Halifax, died suddenly September 19, 2016 at home. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Verna (O’Brien) Cassista, Halifax and the late Edward Charles Cassista.
Shawn worked twelve years as an elevator mechanic and was a brother in the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 125.He was totally devoted to his Mom and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends when they needed one. Shawn had a soft-spot for his housecats, Tiger, Bandit and Chille. He liked to get away to the family property in Antigonish barbequing and enjoying time with his close friends.
A performance car and motorcycle enthusiast, the faster he could make them go the better. He enjoyed off-roading in many forms and was never afraid to get dirty. A true music lover, technology buff and talented mechanic, he paid meticulous attention to detail, had a high standard of achievement and took pride in all that he did. Besides his mother, Shawn will be sadly missed by his sisters, Sandi Cassista, Calgary; Cheryl Cassista, South Rawdon; Patti (Gaylin) Bayard, East Gore; niece, Amanda; nephews, Blake and Jeff.
He was predeceased by his father Edward; sister Annette Brennan, brother, Andrew McDonald.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A private graveside service will be held in The Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
A memorial gathering will be held 11:30am Friday, September 23, at Mic Mac Bar and Grill, 219 Waverley Road, Dartmouth.
