HINES, Phyllis Eleanor – 72, Dutch Settlement. Passed away peacefully Thursday, September 15, 2016 in the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hardwood Lands, she was a daughter of the late Albro and Minnie Carmenia (Cleveland) Singer. She was a much loved and dedicated school bus driver for over forty years. She was a well known community worker, volunteer and loved by many. Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her husband of forty nine years John “Jack” Hines; sons, Larry (Opal) Hines, Carrolls Corner; Danny (Doris) Hines, Enfield; daughter, Susan (Craig) Higgins, Middle Musquodoboit; special nieces, Judy Cormier and Brenda (Stephen) Blois; cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, Austin, Sam, Whitney, Andrew, Hannah, Alexander, Nathan and Johnathan; sisters, Doreen Boutilier, Kennetcook; Sharon (Randy) MacAskill, Gore; brother, Tony (Sandra), Kennetcook; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Opal, Doris, Joyce, Ivy, Sheila and Myrna Alice in infancy; brothers, Don, Gordon, Sam and Currie. Mom’s wish was granted to have her body donated to Dalhousie Faculty of Medical Neuroscience to help aid in the continuing research for the cure of cancer. Visitation 6-8pm, Saturday with a funeral service 2 pm, Sunday both in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks to Dr. Bruce Montgomery, Dr. Mark Doreen, Lynn (RN), all the nurses and staff at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, (Cancer Clinic) and all the staff at the Musquodoboit Memorial Hospital for the outstanding care.
