I met Phyllis when I taught music at Dutch Settlement many years ago. When she learned that I came from a family of quilters I promptly got invited for lunch so we could chat and share stories. The love and pride she poured into each stitch should be a source of comfort to all those who have one of her quilts. I will remember her fondly.

Jack, Larry, Danny, Susan and Family,
So sorry to hear about your loss. I for one will have many memories to hold on to. Whether it been from school days or through involvement with cubs and scouts. Seems like only yesterday that I stepped off of the bus for the last time after school. Thinking of all of you, and wish you all well through this difficult time.
Condolences to all,

Larry, Danny, and Susan, so sorry to hear about your Mum. I keep thinking of the time she was stopped by security when we were visiting the Québec Legislature on our school trip because she had scissors in her purse and how we teased her for the rest of the trip. I worked with her at Stock, I was her dispatcher for a few years as well at Stock and I certainly enjoyed every day and word we spoke with each other. Of course her great nature and total understanding of life she helped me deal with a few issues I was having myself. I feel better knowing she is in no pain any longer battling cancer for so long. She truly will be missed and I feel very sad to not have seen her, but I also feel she is here, giving like she always did. God bless all of you at this difficult time. Earleen

Our sincere condolences to the Hines family..... we are thinking of you. Phyllis was an absolute treasure. She was an amazing bus driver with a good morning and endless patience for all the kids partnered with a fair dose of discipline when needed. I remember helping at the DS Elementary School Christmas dinners....Phyllis always made the turkey dressing....dishes and dishes of it...I loved it....it would have won awards. She shared her recipe with me but ....she laughed when I asked her for it....she didn't have a 'recipe'.... she just went by the look of it and her experience! We will certainly miss her.

Phyllis was a very special and giving lady. In the few years I worked at Dutch Settlement Elementary, I saw her kindness demonstrated in all of her interactions with students, staff, and community. Everyone was happy when Phyllis was our "charter" bus driver on school outings. We knew we would have a safe and enjoyable ride. The kids loved her. When we crossed paths in the school, she always had a smile and she often had very sage advice to share in the most loving ways. Phyllis was the salt of the earth, and a model of community citizenship. She will be greatly missed. To her family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. She was loved and will be remembered with fondness.

I wrote a poem for Phyllis a few years back and I changed it a bit.
Phyllis Hines
When we see a home made quilt,
We will remember Phyllis,
And all the beautiful quilts that she has made.
(Sometimes given to that special someone).
When we smell fresh baked biscuits or cinnamon rolls,
We will remember Phyllis,
And all the goodies that she has baked
Over the years for the staff at DSES,
(Sometimes served with butter and her homemade jam.)
When we see pancakes
We will remember Phyllis
And all the pancakes that she has made
For our students over the years,
(Sometimes served with the Hines’s special maple syrup.)
When we see a big yellow school bus,
We will remember Phyllis,
And all the children that she has transported
Safely over the years;
And how she greeted the students each day
And made them feel very special.
With a smile and with love,
We will remember Phyllis.
Your DSES Family
