I just learned of the passing of Mrs. J who was my teacher at Hants East in 1967-68. I remember one major project where she gave us a choice of topics and even though my choice wasn't on the list she allowed me to go ahead thereby allowing me to explore my interest in world geography. Ten years later I became an ESL teacher in Ontario and in New Jersey. I never forgot Mrs. J..I only regret that she didn't know how much she influenced me.BALDA

Harold and Family
Harold I was so sorry to hear of your mom's passing, growing up in Shubie every where you went you saw Mrs.J, I consider myself very lucky getting to see her a bit more in my younger days growing up, if it was in church or those few extra driving lessons or when she stopped in to see mom about school.
A couple things I do remember is when we would see her driving your old Camaro out past the house, and my birthday is in the winter so she said wait for a snowy day to go for your license and the white line will be covered so you won't have to worry about crossing it, maybe she was trying to tell me something
May she rest in peace

Harold and all your family
Our sincerest condolences in the loss of your Mother/ grandmother.
Your Mum was a lady of service at it's finest. From my Allied Youth days at HERH; to my learning to drive under her instructions, to then working as volunteers within our corridor area, I always appreciated the kind heart your Mum had. She has been missed in our community after her move to the Mira. She will only be missed more with her passing.
So sorry we were away and missed her celebration of a life well lived!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

I just wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to all of you who are part of Mrs"J's family. I will always remember how sweet and kind she was to all of us students at Hants East and she never forgot anyone.....she taught all of us and Iam the youngest of 5 in my family, she had a special spot for my brother Glen who was killed while completing a few grade 12 courses...but was on Reach for the Top and she spoke of that....to me...If not for her I would not be the independent woman Iam today and for her I give her much of that credit by encouraging me to take Driver's Ed something I never thought I would ever be able to do and that is DRIVE.....but I did it and I owe it to you Mrs. J I will never forget you for all your encouragement....and for never forgetting who I was whenever I happen to meet up with you....RIP you truly were one "special" lady......

One remarkable person has earned her gold angel wings. Now she will be watching over us making sure that we continue to carry on her duties since she is no longer with us on earth.
Mr. & Mrs. Johnson, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, Mrs. J. was a very strong person and had more energy than most of us who volunteer at the church. She will always be remembered at Elmsdale Pastoral Charge as a person committed to her church and community. Mrs. J was always there to help whomever she could in anyway possible, she was always ready to give of herself.
There is so much a person can write about your Mom and grandmother but you know of her strength, kindness, love, caring and so on. Our sincere condolences to you all.
We will all remember her as she lead the children to Sunday School from the Sanctuary saying to the congregation, have a good day and Don't Forget to Pray.
Rest in Peace, dear lady and friend, Betty & Steven Allen, Elmsdale.

I had the privilege of knowing "Mrs. J." since I entered Hants East Rural High - way back when. She was a kind but firm teacher and made all our lives better for being there to impart life lessons along with our academic lessons,,intertwining both so beautifully. After retiring , she gave selflessly of herself to many organizations, a prominent leader in her Church (her office was always open for a chat to help with advice on any problem) and starting "Caring and Sharing" was a testament to who she was. How Blessed were we to have known this lovely lady. Heavens gain Is our loss - another bright star in our evening sky.GOD BLESS and Rest in Peace.

Mrs J was a great teacher who inspired many of us with her warmth, wisdom and wit. I, like many others, was fortunate to learn lessons from her not only for school but for life in general. Geography, driving, and being kind and and supportive to others were all in her daily lesson plans! I remember her "feather touch, sweetie" as I drove too fast. And heeding her suggestions to include new kids in ongoing activities "so all of us could have more fun together". She used to walk around the cafeteria to make sure no one was alone (and we were all behaving ourselves!). Condolences to her family and sincere thanks for sharing her with HERH! Barbara Miller Nix

Dear Harold and family,
A big light has gone out in Hants East! Your mother was certainly a force to be reckoned with. I suspect life after her teaching career was busier than before. She worked so hard for her many volunteer organizations and we always knew where she stood. I think my mother might have been the only one that got away with calling her Maggie (Cora is still with us), I know I got "the look" whenever I called her that! We served on the local Community health board for a number of years.

Condolences to Margaret's family.
This is such sad news to wake up to this morning.
I met Margaret when I attended my first provincial Home & School Federation AGM, in 1982.
She was, for many years, the backbone of the Federation.
When I joined the board of directors and was subsequently elected president, she was my inspiration and mentor, and she became my friend.
I was a young, single mother, with very little money and an unreliable car.
As provincial president, I was expected to travel throughout Nova Scotia for speaking engagements at local Home & School Associations, and on those occasions when my car wasn't up to the trip, or I didn't have gas money, Margaret stepped up as my chauffeur, driving me to schools as far away as Cape Breton - and back home the same night!
She was truly a force to be reckoned with, and continued her charitable and volunteer work long after most people would've retreated to a rocking chair.
Margaret leaves a lasting legacy through her work in her community and church, and in the memories of her family, former students, colleagues, and friends, who are all better people for having known her.
R.I.P., Mrs. J.

Today as my son approached a STOP sign I used a term I heard on my first drive , " feather touch, feather touch" Mrs J was my Geography teacher and she taught me to drive safely 38 years ago. Later my wife ( Bev) would cross paths with MrsJ as part of the home and school assoc. Mrs J will always be one of the most memorable and influential people to have touched my life. Rest in peace Mrs J. My condolences to Family and Friends.

To the extended family and especially you Harold, So sorry for your loss. Mrs. J was instrumental to me becoming the person I am today. I stopped in a had a visit on various occasions and always laughed about my days in school. I was probably the only one she kicked out of her class because I looked like I was going to do something. And I was! She will always hold a special place in my heart!

Mrs J was a favourite teacher of mine. She taught me in geography class in her final year of teaching.
She volunteered for everything; in school, with the church and in the community. I still use "feather touch" when each of my children learns to drive. A lovely lady and an inspiration to all.
Mrs J was truly one of a kind!!

Comforting thoughts to family and friends of Mrs.J, as well as the community of East Hants, during this sad time. I had dealings with Mrs. J throughout the community before I became one of her care workers through VON homecare. She will be remembered for her hard work and her no-nonsense personality!
May you rest in peace Mrs. J

Mrs. J, realized that a rural school needed to offer more than just reading and writing. I often thought that she saw education as a much bigger picture than many of her colleagues, including myself, considered it to be. Her contribution to HERH, to her church, and to East Hants was immeasurable.
Glad to have known her; sorry to hear of our loss,
Wayne Garden

I so loved your mom
She taught me how to drive. I can remember her sitting reading the paper while I was driving and at one point I turned my head to look at something and just missed a tree on someone's lawn and she said "lord bird chickee." She could be heard saying, as I pressed the gas a little too hard, "taper chickee taper"
I have lots of wonderful memories back in the day when I was in the plays at Hants East, of which she was a strong supporter, and she was always there with a wise word for me and showed me so much support.
I hope you have wonderful memories to help you through this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy
Anitra Bay

Our thoughts of Mrs J are of such fond memories of a caring teacher in high school, to my first time driving and her hitting the dual brakes suddenly to my surprise. Then at Sunday school and my children knowing her fondly as just Mrs J. She was always interested in how the kids were doing where they were and knew their names as they walked in the door of the church. Everyone loved her and she cared and loved her family, church and all that she touch. We are truly Thankful in knowing such a wonderful lady. Colleen, Stephen,Brittany and Lauren Edgett.

To the family and extended family of Mrs J.. you are losing an angel but heaven is gaining one. As a teacher, a community person and a proud grand mother..Mrs J took every job very seriously. The only thing bigger then her work ethic was her heart. There are so many people that are not even aware of how she has helped them in time of need because she worked swiftly and quietly to give aide wherever she saw a need. Many have been awed and maybe a bit intimidated by her energy but everyone will agree she worked this world as a servant . May she rest in peace .
