Obituary of Richard James Bernard Hunt

HUNT, Richard James Bernard "Buck", age 83 of West St. Andrews, Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2016, surrounded by his family in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, palliative care unit, Truro.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Bernard James and Caroline (Bennett) Hunt.
Richard could accomplish anything he set his mind to. During the Korean War he served with the Royal Canadian Regiment (SF 21673) seeing action on the front line on the 9th parallel. He spent two and a half years in Korea and then returned home to marry the love of his life Lillian. Richard enjoyed reading, storytelling, watching the Toronto Blue Jays baseball games, and deer hunting. He was always someone you could turn to when you needed advice or help, he had a very giving way about him. Right from serving over seas to providing guidance in the family to enjoying spare time in his hunting blind, Richard was best known to family and friends as remarkably intelligent.
He is survived by children; Janet, Halifax; Kathy (Dave), Mount Uniacke; Lillian Jane, Halifax; Betty (Greg), Halifax; John (Mary Lou), Truro; Lisa (Kevin), Herring Cove; grandchildren, Richard, Troy, Charlie, Pamela, Jason, Melinda, Brandon, Danielle, Emily, Bobby, Jordan, Chad, Haley, Kelly, Stephen, Justin, Dylan and Breanna; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Katherine Vincent; brother, Peter (Nancy) Hunt; numerous nieces and nephews and long time friends Snider Boudreau, Brian Burke and Harold Marriott. He will live on through his many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Lillian of 63 years; sons, Richard and Donald; granddaughter, Theresa; brothers, James, Kenneth, David, Walter and Fred; sisters, Edith Flynn and Betty Chisholm. Cremation has taken place, no visitation by request. Funeral service at 11am, Saturday, August 20, 2016 in St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, Shubenacadie, Father Joseph Thomas officiating.
Interment will follow in the Gays River Cemetery.
Reception will follow at the Hunt Family home, 58 D. Ramsey Road, West Saint Andrews.
Flowers would be welcomed or donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Research Society.
Special thanks to granddaughter in law Sheila and Bernadette Stevenson for their unfailing support and care. The family would like to also thank Dawn Ross, Dr. Courtney Smith, Dr. Henderson, and family doctor Lionel Hindler and the team from VON for their compassionate care shown to Richard.
