MURPHY, Bessie May (Reid) – 78, Milford Station, passed away August 10, 2016 in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, with her family by her side. Bessie was born October 4, 1937 in Burntcoat, Nova Scotia, a daughter of the late George and Emma (Robinson) Reid. Bessie attended Normal College in Truro and was a teacher for many years. She was also treasurer of the Canadian Cancer Society for the East Hants Unit for thirty years and a member of the Milford-Lantz United Church. An accomplished seamstress and avid card player she was happy to be known as one of the East Hants Golden Girls while making the rounds of the various card parties in the area. Her smile will be greatly missed. Predeceased by her husband, Ralph in 2011, Bessie is survived by her son, Barry (Marlene), Bridgewater; daughter, Wanda (Carolyn), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Kelsey and Scott Murphy (Coral), step grand-daughter, Amy Lemieux; sister, Jessie (Ed) Hennigar, Truro; brother, John (Nancy) Reid, Ottawa; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all those who called and visited during Bessie’s illness. Your kindness will not be forgotten. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 11am, Tuesday, August 16 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Lori Crocker DM officiating. A reception will be held at the funeral home following the service. A private family committal will be held in Gays River Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Milford-Lantz United Church.
