Obituary of Leonard Richard McDonald

MCDONALD, Leonard Richard, age 70, of Stewiacke. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lennie McDonald on March 15, 2016 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Frederick and the late Annie “Mary” (Cremo) McDonald. A much loved husband, father and Grampie, Lennie was an amazing man. He was a mechanical genius who never came across a diesel engine he couldn’t fix. He was known across Canada for his ability to fix anything and was loved by so many. Lennie was a long haul trucker for many years, logging over 3 million miles, all across North America. He and his family resided in Alberta for over 10 years, where he ran a mechanical shop. They acquired wonderful life-long friends out west who will dearly miss him. Lennie overcame great odds and fought a valiant battle to stay with us for over 11 years. For this we are thankful. He was a man of honour and his word was his bond. Lennie leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Jane; daughters, Anita (Colin) and Jodi, son-in-law Craig; grandchildren, Madeline, Colby, Nicholas and William, brother, Kevin (Donna); Shelley Gordon, who was like a daughter to him; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Donnie, Adrian and Bubby; nephews Patrick and Donnie; and his dear friend, Leonard Brown. Visitation will take place 7-9pm, Friday, March 18 and 2-4pm and 7-9pm Saturday, March 19 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, from where a service will be held 3pm Sunday March 20, Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Interment will take place at Admiral Rock Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Admiral Rock Cemetery or the Salvation Army.
