Obituary of Dorothy Meiklejohn Morris

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MORRIS (Ronald), Dorothy Meiklejohn - It is with great sadness that we announce that Dorothy passed away in her home on January 9th, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Arthur Morris and their children - Wendy, Brian (Stephanie), Susan (Brian) and Andrew; their grandchildren - Cori, Ruth, Erik (Alicia) and Tegan and their great-granddaughter - Rayne. She is also survived by her nephew, Bruce Flockhart (Elaine) and their family. Dorothy has been cremated as was her wish. Born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland on June 25th, 1927, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Meiklejohn and Alan Ian Ronald. She was predeceased by her sister, Marjory Flockhart. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and young family in 1958. As a navy family, they moved frequently until they settled in Nova Scotia in 1971. Constantly on the go, Dorothy had many focuses for her abundance of energy. She danced with a Scottish County Dance Group for 23 years and was a long-time member of the Dartmouth Choral Society. Her love of the outdoors was witnessed by her involvement with the Halifax Field Naturalists and her interest in gardening. If the sun was shining you were sure to find her in the garden. Dorothy loved to read and shared her love by volunteering with the Halifax Literacy Council for many years. Her boundless energy and thirst for travel were well-fed when she and Arthur began globe-trotting in their late 50s on their sailboat Cabot's Mathew. They visited over 40 countries from South America to Norway, Turkey and the Black Sea, including spending six months in Paris. They sailed and explored for 13 years before they settled back in Nova Scotia. The family would like to offer a very special thanks to Colchester/East Hants Health Authority Palliative Care Unit, Dr. John Henderson, Dawn Martell, R.N., and all the V.O.N. Canada nurses, and Continuing Care Assistants. Their wonderful, dedicated nursing and care can only be described as magnificent. A "Celebration of Her Life" gathering will take place on January 30th. Friends of Dorothy and the family will be welcome to the gathering in Austenville Owls Club, 34 Oakdale Cres., Dartmouth between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to share memories. Please e-mail or phone the following number, if you will be attending the gathering. Phone 902-830-5402 or send e-mail to: ettingerfuneralhome@hotmail.com.
