Obituary of Donald Edward Conrad

Conrad, Donald Edward, CPO (Retired)- age 71, of Grand Lake, passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, with his wife by his side on December 31. Born in Wawota, Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late Edward and Bertha Conrad. Donald joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1963, and was sent to Cornwallis, NS for training. Through his 33 years in the Navy, he had many postings, including numerous sea postings – H.M.C.S. Huron, H.M.C.S. Fraser, H.M.C.S. Restigouche, H.M.C.S. Ottawa, and H.M.C.S. Halifax – which took him around the world. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1996, Donald joined the Commissionaires and worked at the Ammunitions Depot at the Bedford Magazine until his second retirement in 2008. He enjoyed watching sports, especially hockey, baseball and curling; in his earlier years he spent many years playing both baseball and curling. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Vera. He is survived by his loving wife, Faith (Rose); his children, Douglas (Carla), Elmsdale, Sandra, Halifax; his brother, Herb (Debra) Conrad, Shaunovan, Sask.; brother in law, Ron (Eleanor) Rose, Ottawa, Ont.; nieces and nephews in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2pm Monday, January 4 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Donald may be made to the charity of your choice.
