Peter Joseph Robinson- 90 years young
Peter passed quietly from this life to the next, on July 30, 2015, surrounded by family, which was very important to him. Born in Yarmouth on September 23, 1924, he was a son of the late Wintford and Josephine (Luxie) Robinson. A humble man always wearing a smile and sharing a cheerful word, he lifted the spirits of all those he encountered.
He joined the Army at an early age, then worked at various jobs, being a jack of all trades and excelling in most of them. He was bestowed the honor of receiving the title "Honorary Chief of Mi'Kmaq", on October 12, 1992, a title in recognition of his inalienable right to protect and preserve the ancestral burial grounds of Mi'Kmaq at the Masshouse Settlement in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Ellen (Lewis) Robinson; sons, Matthew and Russel Robinson, Ross Galloway, Rothesay, N.B.; daughter, Joanne Claire Robinson, Shubenacadie; brothers, John and Clifford Pictou, Louie and Jim Robinson; sisters, Mary Rose Labrador, Margaret Turner and Rachael Huggins. He is survived by daughters, Eilleen (Robinson) Walsh, Boston, MA; Marie Robinson, Shubenacadie; brother, Robert Pictou, Chapel Island, C.B.; numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great–great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces; and over 300 godchildren (Shubenacadie Indian Residential School); special godchild, Clayton Paul, Indian Brook. Visitation will be in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie on Sunday, August 2nd from 6pm-8pm, Monday, August 3rd from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm - 8pm, and Tuesday, August 4th from 12pm – 130pm. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday August 4th at 2pm in St Kateri Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Fr. Tom Kurudeepan, OMI officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
