Obituary of Nancy Terry Ettinger

ETTINGER (Etter), Nancy Terry - July 21, 1927 – July 19, 2015, Shubenacadie/ East Stewiacke. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nancy Terry (Etter) Ettinger, daughter of the late Fred A. and A. Edith (Reid) Etter on the 19th day of July at Northwood Centre, Halifax, formerly of East Stewiacke and Shubenacadie. Nancy was an active community worker through her church with Messengers, Explorers, and CGIT, as well as UCW-Moran Unit and Session. She was secretary at Shubenacadie District School and worked at MacMillan’s Accounting doing tax returns. Nancy’s hands were always busy with quilting, milliner, sewing, knitting, especially mittens for church and schools. She kept her mind busy with crosswords, cryptoquotes, sudoko and jigsaw puzzles and playing Bridge and Garbage. She enjoyed Tai Chi, and line dancing, but was never more graceful than when dancing with her husband, Avard, to the old tyme music. She is survived by her children, Terry (Gary) Adshade, Timberlea; Philip (Elsie) Ettinger, Victoria; Debra (Alexander) Eddy, East Stewiacke; and Barbara Ettinger, East Stewiacke; grandchildren, Lana, Amy, Barrett, Jonathan, Crystal, Tara; and great grandchildren Gwen, Ryan, Chase, Logan, Sierra and Marshall; sister, Elizabeth Maybee of Tatamagouche; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Avard; brother, Stanley Etter. Thank you to third floor staff during Mom’s stay at Colchester East Hants Health Centre and especially to Northwood Centre first floor staff who were so supportive in meeting Mom’s needs. There will be a Celebration Get Together on Sunday, July 26, at Shubenacadie United Church from 11:30 to 12:30 followed by a private interment at Brookside Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or Shubenacadie United Church or a charity of your choice.
