MACLEOD, Robert Hugh, age 87, Milford Station- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Robert “Bobby” on June 8, 2015 at The Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by his family. He left us peacefully to be in Heaven with his loving wife. Having been born in Boston in 1928 to the late Robert Neil and Mary MacLeod was always a great source of pride for Dad. He was passionate about his American roots and family lineage. At an early age his family moved to Cape North, NS and Canada became his home for the remainder of his life. Dad began his career with National Gypsum in Dingwall, Cape Breton at the age of 17. He continued to work for the company at their Milford site until he retired in 1993 with 48 years of service. He had started out as an equipment operator and then worked for many years as a master mechanic. He then went on to work as a machinist before becoming a supervisor of mobile equipment. He was very proud of what he had accomplished in his career and was well respected by those who worked with him. After retirement, he became interested in genealogy and spent many hours working on his family tree. He was a member of the Clan MacLeod Society for several years. Dad was happiest when spending time with his family, whether at home in Milford or in his “summer paradise” in Neil’s Harbour. Music had always been a passion for him, particularly Scottish and Irish, and he enjoyed having a good “jig and a reel” now and then. Over the years he dabbled in playing the harmonica, and entertaining staff, patients, and visitors became a great pastime for him during his hospital stay. Dad was a wonderful husband, father, and Papa and will always be remembered by his family for his love, support, guidance, and generosity. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy “Dot” Organ; his parents, Robert and Mary MacLeod, and his sister, Irene MacDonald. He is survived by son, Brian (Barb); daughters, Hughena (Gerry) Boyd, Diane (Dan) MacDonald; and a sister, Eleanor (John) Gwynn. He is also survived by his grandsons, Scott (Sara) Boyd, Michael (Tammy) Barbrick, Brent (Christine) Barbrick, Darin (Becky) Barbrick, Tyler (Sarah) MacLeod; granddaughters, Heather (Nick) Cassis, Shauna (Troy) Matheson, Breanna MacLeod, and step-granddaughter, Denice MacDonald. Dad was a very proud great grandfather to Ruby, Rosie, Gillian, Liam, Ashlyn, Alyssa, Michaela, Alexandra, Kailey, Graeson, Christian, Braylin, Analeigh and Maya; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the dedicated staff on D3 and E3 for the care and compassion given to Dad during his lengthy hospital stay. We would also like to thank Pat Mills for his constant friendship. A special thank you as well to Herman Juurlink, whom Dad called his “adopted son”, for being a good friend and helping him pass the time. Also to Dad’s special friend, Charlene MacPhee, who has been a support for him over the last few years. We would like to express our deep appreciation to Lori Crocker for her many visits to see Dad, which we know brought him and us much comfort. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home. Visitation 6-8pm, Thursday with funeral service 3pm, Friday, both in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Lori Crocker, DM officiating. Reception to follow. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Milford. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Bobby may be made to The Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
