FERRIS (HAMILTON), Eileen, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eileen Ferris, while surrounded by her family on February 20, 2015 at the age of 96. At the time of her passing she was a resident of Elk Court Nursing Home, Brookfield. Born in North Sydney on November 5, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Emily and William Hamilton. Eileen was an extremely hard worker from an early age. She was an accomplished self-taught seamstress, a skill honed on assorted projects for those closest to her. She also enjoyed knitting and later in life her flower gardens. She had a great love for golf but never played. A big fan of Tiger Woods. Eileen was a gentle woman loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and also her long time friends including ladies from Stanfields. She had a great determination with a hint of stubbornness and whatever she started she accomplished. She started out working at the pants factory in Amherst, then the Lewis Hat Factory in Stewiacke where she was a forewoman. She then was employed at Stanfield's Truro, until her retirement at age 65. We all knew her to be stylish dresser, a fantastic dancer and she loved all types of jewelry. Eileen was a superb cook, she lovingly shared her talents in preparing meals for family and friends. She loved and was very proud of her family, especially her great grandchildren. She is survived by her only daughter, Sandy Ellis (Clarence Singer), grandchildren, Jeffrey Ellis (Sheri), Great Village, Rhonda Perrin, Stewiacke, stepsons, Jackie Ferris (Diane), Larry Ferris (Carol), Dartmouth; great grandchildren, Olivia, Dawson, Madison and Mitchell, who lovingly knew her as "Noonie", 2 step-grandcildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and 1 great great step granddaughter, sister Mary Mercer, Sydney, many nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by sisters Viola Moore, Hazel DeYoung, brothers Thomas, Theodore and Johnny Hamilton and an infant brother, stepson Merlin Ferris. Visitation will be 6-8pm Monday February 23 at the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie, from where a funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday, Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Interment will take place May 1, 2015 in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Elk Court for their loving kindness and for the care provided to Mom during her year and a half stay there. You are all truly special. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choosing.
