MILLER, (FAULKNER) (BEATTIE), Muriel Aleta, Truro/Maitland It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Muriel on October 21st at the age of 88. In her last years she was a resident of The Mira,Truro. Born in Bass River, Colchester County on December 12, 1925, she grew up in Lower Selma and Maitland, Hants Co. ; and was the eldest daughter of the late Guy and Marie (Fahey) Faulkner of Maitland, Hants County. She was a dedicated school teacher for 38 years, having started her career in Birch Brook, Hants Co.; and taught in Urbania, Pembrook, and Maitland, retiring after many years at Princess Margaret Rose School in Truro. She was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College, had studied at Saint Mary's University, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Muriel loved history and spent many years gathering information for the family tree. She was known for clipping interesting articles from the newspaper and informing others what she had found. Muriel enjoyed playing cards, loved fudge of any kind, and also loved to order things by mail. She was happy shopping for deals and traveling the world, but was there for anyone who needed help. Not one to make a fuss if you dropped in, she quickly put together a meal ,always serving laughter along with it. Muriel was well known for her love of large Ford Cars and their speed. For years she remembered many with cards on every occasion, signed with her trademark Peacock blue ink. She is survived by brother Lawson ( Doris), Roslin, Ontario; stepdaughter Gail Garroway (Graham) ,Dartmouth; stepson Brian Miller (Sandra), Shubenacadie ; brothers-in-law: Dawson Beattie (Clair), Maitland ;Wes Hennigar, Bedford; Charles Beattie, Helen Hartland (Henry), Linda Bartlett ( Laurie) ; sisters-in-law : Pauline, Maitland ; Ruby (Faulkner) Dimock, Ontario . Predeceased by: husbands Clifford Beattie and Stanley Miller; brothers: Malcolm, Harold, Merle; sisters: Pauline Singer and Eleanor Hennigar; brothers-in-law: Murray and John; sisters-in-law: Thelma Ellis , Caroline Richford ; step-daughter Karen (Miller) Freeman; step- granddaughter Shelly (Miller) Ryan; sisters-in-law: Frances Faulkner and Carole Faulkner ;brother-in-law Grant Singer. Muriel is also survived by step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, as well as several cousins; and by many nieces and nephews who she always made feel as though they were her own. The family offers thanks to the staff of The Mira, Truro for their excellent care; and a special thanks to Elva Yorke for her care and friendship to Muriel before and during her years at The Mira . Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie, where the family will receive visitors Friday October 24th from 2 - 4 pm . Funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday October 25th at 11:00 am ,with Rev. Rodger K Moore, BA MDiv officiating; followed by reception. Burial in Oak Island Cemetery, Maitland, Hants County. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Oak Island Cemetery or charity of your choice.
