Obituary of Meldon Bartlett

Bartlett, Meldon Melissa (formerly Meldon Gorveatt)- Mel passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax on October 18th, surrounded by her children. Mel was born in Kennetcook, Hants County, NS. She graduated from Hants North Rural High in 1957 and attended Nova Scotia Normal College in Truro. She taught at Kennetcook Elementary, New Glascow Elementary and Shubenacadie Elementary. She spent the majority of her teaching career in Truro, where she spent many years at Willow Street Elementary and Colchester Education Centre. During the final years of her teaching career, Mel focussed on teaching the Special Education classes at CEC. Mel was a positive and caring influence on hundreds of children who benefitted from her kind, thoughtful and caring tutelage. She loved and cared for all her students, and religiously followed their progress throughout their lives. She was a true "teacher". So many have benefitted from her efforts. She was loved and will be missed by all her students. Beyond being an exemplary teacher in her professional career, Mel was a loving mother to four children, grandmother to five grandchildren and great grandmother to three. She was an example of unconditional love to them all. Mel is survived by her son, Lester Gorveatt, Fredericton, NB; her son, Steven Gorveatt, Bedford; her daughter, Joanne Gorveatt, Halifax; and her son, David Gorveatt, Halifax; grandchildren, Sarah, Jonathon, Chelsey, Jarrett, and Amanda. Mel is also survived by her siblings, Grant, Calgary, AB; Carl, Vancouver, BC; Alice, Kennetcook; Bernadine, Bedford; and Debra, Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her parents, Cora Pearl (Anthony), Bartlett and Bernard Franklyn Bartlett; and her brother, Gregory. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all. She made a positive and caring difference in the lives of her family and all who knew her. She was a feisty and special woman. We are all so lucky to have had her in our lives. Her example as an extraordinary soul will be remembered by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, and students. We love you Mom, until we meet again. Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, Oct. 22nd in Kennetcook United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Amanda's Gift Bursary- the Gift of Education for former youth in care ages 16-28 who wish to pursue education and /or career development opportunities, would be greatly appreciated.
