NELSON, Melvin Edward - 76, Elmsdale, formerly of Milford passed away suddenly at home on October 6, 2014. Born in Halifax he was a son of the late Edward and Myrtle (Miller) Nelson.
Melvin retired from Canadian National Rail after 37 and a half years of service. He is a past Worshipful Master and Past DDGM of the Masonic order. Melvin was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Elmsdale # 55. He served as a Municipal Councillor for Milford. He was an elder and trustee in the Milford - Lantz United Church. He was a founding member of Milford Recreation Association. He was a charter member of the Milford Lions Club. He was a past member and fire chief of the Milford Volunteer Fire Department. He was heavily involved in many capacities of local hockey and fastball.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Elaine, children Glenn (Laura), Steven (Joanne), Melvina (Greg), grandchildren Mariah (Ben), Joel (Krista), Melissa (Jason) Kari, Kyla (Patrick), Braden and great grandson James; sisters Marion (Tom) Maguire, Marguerite Grant, Irene Huybers, Anne Conrod and Audrey Nelson; brother Gary (Jocelyne) Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Walter Nelson. Cremation has taken place. A Masonic Service will be held at 6pm followed by visitation until 8pm Wednesday in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Thursday in Milford-Lantz United Church, Milford, Lori Crocker DM officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Milford. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Milford- Lantz United Church.
