Obituary of Vera Russell

RUSSELL, Vera Frances May, 96- Maitland, passed away peacefully July 12, 2014 at the Northumberland Hall, Amherst, surrounded by family. Born in Kingston on Thames, England, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Florence (Constable) Smart. A longtime resident of Maitland, she was a member of the United Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the Canadian Foresters. Vera was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was cherished by her family. She enjoyed gardening as evidenced in her large vegetable gardens (especially in earlier days) and her beautiful flower gardens. Vera relished her visits with family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her children, Nellie Watson, Bible Hill, George (Donna) Russell, Scotsburn, Karen (Ronnie) Hughes, Milford, Cora Rhyndress, Maitland, Erick (Roma) Russell, Kennetcook, Jim (Valerie) Russell, North Salem, fifteen grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sisters Olga Lucas, Halifax, Dorothy Oliver, Liverpool, numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George Russell, daughter Emily Ruth Owen, brothers Albert, Harold and Cyril; sister Florence Whynott. No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at 2pm Tuesday July 15, 2014 in St. David's United Church, Maitland, Rev. Roger Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Island Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Oak Island Cemetery or a charity of choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Iain MacNeil and staff of the Elmsdale Medical Centre as well as the staff of Northumberland Hall for the kindness and care shown to Vera.
