Bernice Dickie Obituary

DICKIE, Bernice "Babes" - 66, Meaghers Grant, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour, on July 3rd, 2014, after an 8 month battle with cancer. Born in Dutch Settlement, on August 12, 1947 she was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Nettie (Isenor) Ashley. Her interests included playing darts, cards, bingo, and washer toss. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister , friend and a great cook who enjoyed hosting big family gatherings. She started work at Sears Halifax on Mumford Road, Maritime Life, Elmsdale Cheese Plant, Home Care for a number of years, and was last employed at River Oaks Golf course in the canteen for 11 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Walter, daughters Anne (Dan) Pyke, Paula Dickie, both of Meaghers Grant; Janice Dickie (Tim Jordan), Dartmouth; grandchildren Steven (Becky), Justin, Kalika, Danielle, Lauren, Quinn, Blake and Sophia; great grandchildren Alexandra and Danica; sisters Una Isenor, Rowena (Kenny) Sibley, Sylvia "Honey" (Mike) Laycock, Sheila (Ronnie) MacKenzie; brother Stelman "Tim" (Peggy) Ashley; "bestest friend" Sharon Hamilton; several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a sister Beatrice in infancy, brother-in-law Ron Isenor and a nephew Sheldon Ashley. Visitation 7-9 pm, Tuesday, with funeral service 2pm, Wednesday both in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Patty McKenna officiating. Reception following the service in the reception area. In Lieu of flowers donations in memory of "Babes" may be made to Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice. Thanks to Dr. Merritt and the nursing staff at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital and the Gyno-Oncology staff at the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre.
