Obituary of Rose Marie Nevin

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

NEVIN, Rose Marie – age 80, of Indian Brook, passed away on December 27th, 2024, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Angeline (Paul) Phillips and Frank Marble.

Rose Marie was a Mi’kmaq language teacher for years at the daycare and LSK in Indian Brook only retiring at the age of 70. She was a fluent Mi’kmaq speaker and was proud to be able to speak her language. She was also a Residential School Survivor, but she did not let that get her down. She was always laughing and enjoyed a good joke. She brought happiness everywhere she went. She loved to gamble but her favourite pastime was Bingo. She would go across the street to play the double up machines but if there was a good Bingo game somewhere she was there. She also loved to travel to either Eskasoni or Boston. She had family in both places and would visit whenever she could. It would be nothing for her to be in Eskasoni one weekend and in Boston the next weekend. She was a seasoned traveller and would sometimes leave in the middle of the night or just at the drop of a hat. It would be nothing to her to just get up and go. She was a foster mother for years and took care of her sisters' children from different ages until they left the nest. She raised 3 of her grandchildren from when the oldest was 4 and the youngest was 18 months. She loved them with all her heart and was so immensely proud of their accomplishments. She loved all her grandchildren but these three were special.

Rose is survived by her brothers, Vincent Phillips, Stubby Marble, Albert Julian Sr; brothers in law, Kevin McDonald, Anthony Nevin, David Nevin (Mary), William Nevin (Connie), Wallace Nevin, Jimmy Nevin; sister, Leona Phillips; sisters in law, Eleanor Michael, Jean Knockwood (Bernie), Rose Ann Nevin (Curtis), Meg Nevin, Sheila Joseph (Gary) children, David McDonald, Michelle McDonald (Troy Farnell), Francis Nevin Jr (Ashley Paul), Sherri Fitzpatrick (Peter) and Tara Francis. Her grandchildren, William, Alexandria, Jasmine, Gabriel, Patrice, Raylyn (Jordan), Melayna, Kayla, Royce (Luther), London (Jackson), Mercedes, Melita, Frankie, Penelope, Evander, Mireia and Patrick.  Her great-grandchildren, Acis, Lilliana, Kenai, Kienna, Zion, and Zavier, and her BFF Josie Francis from Eskasoni. Her godchildren, Peter Syliboy, Aileen Francis, Colton Francis, and Candace Nevin.  She has many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Too many to name here.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her second husband, the late Francis W. Nevin Sr. (d. 2008); her first husband, William D. McDonald (d. 1969); sister, Helen Nicholas (d. 2008); brother, Andrew in infancy; son, Patrick (d. 1999) and grandson Joey (d. 1991).
