We had the privilege of getting to know Art through Gary’s time at the Waverly DNR office. Art built our kitchen in our first house in Belnan and appreciated both Art’s woodworking skills and his sense of humour. He and Bonnie generously offered children’s items they no longer needed like a strong old fashioned carriage/stroller and many children’s books, where the pages became worn from frequent page turning! Though we haven’t seen the family in many years after leave Hants county, we often remembered all of them with a fondness in our hearts. Art was truly one of a kind. We send deepest condolences to Bonnie and family.

Ron Smith and I were saddened to hear about Art. He was a great guy. He was manager of the boys fastball team that Ron and I coached many years ago. Arts's son Kevin and my son Scott played on the team together. We had a great season of ball.
We also knew Art when we had a camp in Glenelg where we hunted deer in the fall. He was diligent in keeping an eye on us to make sure we followed the hunting regulations. A highlight of one season was when Art question my dad and Arnold Monroe's dad at the camp one day about two deer they had shot. The two were a little under the weather. Art eventually gave up talking to them.
Not too many years later the Enfield Deer Hunting club would invite Art to their annual awards supper at Ron's house. Art came often and his stories were a joy to listen to.
A great guy who will certainly be missed. My condolences to family and friends.

Thinking of you all. Gordie was very sad to hear the news. Beautifully written obituary as it captures his personality and character well. I could hear him laughing too. Hugs from the Mailmans I feel I need to share my love of Dahlias and this year’s prize one. - Andrea

Art was a co-worker at NS Dept. of Lands and Forests, friend and neighbour and a very memorable man. He indoctrinated me to the art of game law enforcement, the Redden style and in so doing introduced me to many of the back roads of Halifax county, all be it mostly at night. As a craftsman he helped us construct our Oak/ Ash island in our once Enfield home, which still stands as a Center piece.
Rest in peace Art and our condolences to Bonnie and family..

Dear Bonnie and Family, I am so sorry that Art has lost his battle with that horrible disease..Peggy Higgins had told me that Art was struggling.. I was able to provide Art with some genealogy help when he was writing about the Redden family in the Musquodoboit Valley..Art actually grew up in my Miller family’s homestead in Higginsville..Art was a gracious, witty man and I am pleased that our paths crossed in life..His kind are not being “made” anymore..I send blessings to all who love Art…Dawn MacAskill Cumming.
