Linda first reached out to me with a friend request on facebook in January 2021. She wanted 'to see all my pictures I took of Maitland over Christmas' (she was interested in her community) and wished me a Happy New Year. I soon came to call her "Decorator Linda" in the sharing of chats from time to time. She indicated after viewing my pictures that she would 'probably come up with a few ideas' for me some day. She said, "I'm always thinking weird stuff." And 'her creative juices DID flow' I told her.
In April she alerted me to a photo opp at her place where a grape gazebo had been ripped down. She smilingly said, 'if you do take a pic of it, you can title it, Linda got mad at Ken again! lol". We often shared experiences on the topic of 'men' haha ... say no more.
I came to think of her as the new village florist and was recipient of a beautiful rose creation for my birthday one year. I asked the 'master creator woman' how she came up with her ideas....she looked at other peoples' concepts she told me, but.....'i never read instructions. It doesn't make it fun to do!' Further she said, 'i try to learn one thing new every year but my mind switches too much to many, many ideas.' She was never bored. 'Nope that's why i stay up most of the night' she indicated once. The Queen of crafting she was.
I recall taking broken dishes....she was working on crafting something with them. Her crafting was 'her stress relief.'
We did exchanges ... rhubarb for raspberries.
She was often working 'out after dark' at a surprise for someone on a lawn, or at the village bridge boxes....i'd see her on my last walks of the day by times.
Occasionally she'd ask me collaborate ... any flowers? She'd 'do the cake' for someone...
She liked making pickles....and tell me....what a mess she had to clean up in her creative kitchen.
She was a worker bee for sure.
She once gifted me a vintage dress. "Maybe some day i will have all of Maitland in period dress," she said.
We spoke about her having relatives in Cape Breton the July we were working at returning there. She mentioned she had scattered her Mom's ashes in the Bras d'Or lakes.....had an aunt in Baddeck and cousins on the outskirts of there.
I'm grateful to have known Linda as much as I did. Sincere condolences to Ken and all her family,
Barbie MacLeod

I first met Linda when I came to visit them a few years ago. I immediately bonded with her because of our shared love of crafts. It was lovely seeing Ken so happy, it meant I could return home to England without worrying about him. Each time I came to visit, Linda would make me some shirts, so whenever I wear them I will be constantly reminded of her. I am pleased I had the chance to see Linda in the Summer before she became so poorly.

I used to call Linda behind her back the crazy Crafter we'd only met a few times when she found out that we were getting married in the middle of the pandemic. And she showed up like a one-man band with totes of decorations and lights and fabric and all kinds of goodies and she made our special day super special even though we barely knew each other. She always had her hand decorating the community like the bridge and the post office.

Love you momma!

My Darling Linda,
The last 5.75 years have been the most wonderful of my life and I know we were planning many more in the future. You awakened feelings and traits within me that I never knew about and you were my grounding force making sure I didn't do anything I'd regret.
You were a wonderful mother [Jordan and Kelsey], grandmother [Dexter, Hudson, Violet, Lesley, Phoenix and Avon], sister [Christine, Debbie and Kevin], daughter [Carl and Alice], and partner to me. Your light and creativity both touched and inspired everybody you came in contact with.
My one solace is that you're no longer suffering or in pain and I know that we'll be together again in Heaven when it's time for me to pass on. You're with our Lord, Jesus Christ, and also with your mum, granny and other family who've previously passed.
I Love You more than words will ever say and I will do anything if there was a way I could have you back with me. I miss you deeply and wish that we'd been able to fulfil our plans together. Whatever I do, and wherever I go, you are always going to be with me in spirit and it will be for the two of us.
You were, and always will be, my one true soulmate and confidante in life. Rest in Peace my Love, We'll be together again in the future.
Ken
