Obituary of Caye Avis Harris-Allum
HARRIS-ALLUM, Caye Avis - age 68, of Elmsdale, passed away suddenly at home, on November 14th, 2024. Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Elveretta (Rice) Harris.
Affectionately known as Cookie Caye, mom always had cookies in the cookie jar, or was making cakes or other baked goods for church suppers. Mom had a quick, witty sense of humour and a contagious laugh that could be heard throughout the subdivision. Mom’s favourite holiday was Halloween and she looked forward to seeing all her fellow witches and goblins that came to visit her. It was a beautiful gift to have known her and to have been given the opportunity to be apart of her journey. It wasn’t always easy but she made the best out of every situation. We will miss your wisdom and old wives tales to go with every season. Mom grew up in Bear River, NS. After graduating from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Mom worked for Halifax Seed Company, where her love of plants, flowers and gardening bloomed. In recent years she worked as a tax consultant for H&R block. She volunteered her time with the Elmsdale Beautification Society and her love of flowers showed with each flower basket that hung throughout the corridor.
Caye is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Byron; daughters, Brittany (Shane) Sutherland, Onslow Mountain, Breeanna (Sean O’Toole), Carrolls Corner, and Morgan (Ned Burns), Belnan; sister, Susan Harris, Halifax. She was called Meemee by her grandchildren and will be greatly missed by Elena and Camden Sutherland, Harrison and Ella Allum-Buckley, Pepper and Meadow Burns and her newest witchling, Evelyn O’Toole. Along with numerous cousins and her fur babies Freya, Spookie and Periwinkle.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. Thank you Dr. Iain MacNeil for all of the help and support you gave to mom and to all the first responders that came to help in our time of need.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 from 3-5pm in Riverview United Church.
Donations in memory of Caye may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Elmsdale Beautification Society or the SPCA.
