Obituary of Huck McCarthy
McCARTHY, Merlin Wayne “Huck” – age 73 of South Branch, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 22, 2024, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro and raised in Stewiacke, he was a son of Mary McCarthy-Arsenault (Raye) and stepson of Al Arsenault and son to the late John McCarthy.
At the young age of eighteen Huck moved to Toronto where he took a course as an apprentice in fire protection. He moved back to Nova Scotia in 1974 where he became self employed in fire protection for 15 years. The remainder of his working years were with Vipond until his retirement in 2013. Upon retiring, Huck and his wife, Sharon, built and made their home in Upper Stewiacke. His passion were old vintage cars with his pride and joy being a 1959 Corvette. Huck was a very gentle and easygoing man who loved his family unconditionally. He had a great sense of humour and a contagious laugh.
Huck is survived by his sons, Bryce, Barrett (Nikki); Jonathan (Ryan); stepson, Kelly (Christina) Dewar; stepdaughter, Kim (Gary) Mitchell; grandchildren, Harrison, Vincent, Logan, Lennox, Marshall, Violet; step-grandchildren, Benjamin, Charlie, Molly and Abby.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sharon; brother, Neil.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A private graveside service will be held.
