Mark Thompson

Obituary of Mark Grant Thompson

THOMPSON, Mark Grant -  age 43, a proud lifelong resident of Nine Mile River, passed away at home on September 24, 2024 with his family camped out by his side. Mark was born on November 8, 1980 to Stephen and Claudia (Ashley) Thompson.

As a youth Mark spent his summers at the ballfield and winters at the rink, he was an intense competitor at everything he did. After high school Mark carried on in the footsteps of his father and worked in the woods for 20 plus years. Later in life, Mark traded in his skates for golf clubs, taught himself how to play the ukulele and embraced the multitude of animals Abby brought home. He enjoyed the simpler things in life and being home with his family in an old pair of joggers watching his football team the KC Chiefs.

Mark will forever be in the hearts of his wife of 19 years, Abby (McKenna) Thompson, the love of his life.  His proudest accomplishments, sons, Jacob (Claire Underhill) and Owen Thompson. Parents, Stephen and Claudia Thompson; sister, Michele Thompson; grandmother, Lorna Thompson; uncle Tim and aunt Sue Gibbon.  He was the son-in-law to Janice and John Mckenna; brothers-in-law, Nick (Taralee Firmage) McKenna and Andrew Ryan; nieces and nephews, Elaina, Carson, Harrison, Jack, Camdyn and Kinsley.

Mark was predeceased by his grandfather, Downey Thompson and his sister-in-law, Jessica McKenna-Ryan.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. There will be no service as per Mark’s wishes.

The family would like to thank the brilliant Dr. David Clarke, nurse Andrea Hebb and Dr. Emad Massoud along with the entire floor of 7.3 of the QEII - the team of residents, nurses, CCA workers, front desk staff and cleaners; you all helped make a difficult time a little easier on us all. Last but certainly not least, VON, the palliative care team nurse Dawn Ross and Dr. Cortney Smith and his very own personal nurse, aunt Sue, who all made it possible to grant his last wish to be at home during this tragic time.

In lieu of donations Mark would prefer you make the time to take your family out to dinner. You never know when it will be your last.
