Dear Garden Family,
My heartfelt condolences to you all. It certainly is hard to believe how quickly life can change.
He was always a big presence in a room. You never knew what was coming but always knew he cared even though he tried to hide it…every time he saw you. Trying to get a rise out of you took precedence!
He was so proud of becoming a dad to Josh so I can only imagine how he loved becoming a grandparent!
Speak of him often and smile at the memories.
Much love always,
Ann Slater

To my Garden cousins and their families,
I was very sorry to be unable to attend the Celebration of Life for Don.
Not surprising to learn the place was packed and looking through these photos and seeing all these comments it reaffirms what an impact Don had on all those he knew and loved over the years.
My thoughts are with you all

Q: What was Donald really good at?
A: Donald was really good at anything he set his mind to. Sports, Work and sharing his knowledge of both the above with all that knew him. He with his twin brother John and older brother Frederick were at the top of their profession of cable repairman with MT&T now known as Bell. They were always quick to respond to any trouble that was passed their way. Don and his brothers were also avid hockey players who played hard and made no friends when on the ice. Off the ice they were totally different and were back to being friends with all that know them. I am proud to say I am friends with all of them, had the chance to work with all of them and also watch them while playing hockey in the old East Hants arena.
I know Don will be sadly missed by all that knew him family friends and his fellow workers. God bless you Don.
My heart goes out to all your family members. May you now rest in peace
May you know this saying
You May be gone but you will never be forgotten by anyone you have known or touched in the life you spent with us.
Fellow worker Central Office Man

We always cherished our time with Don, whom we both met at MTT/Bell Aliant back in 1985, at the old Dartmouth Work center. Anyone who has worked with the Garden Brothers and Gary J. holds them in high esteem. Few people can match their work ethic and their ability to enjoy life. The laughter and warmth they shared were always evident to everyone around them. I often tell my husband that when Don spoke to you, he truly looked at you, listened, and made you feel valued. Our sympathies on your loss.

My sincerest and deepest condolences to Josh, John, Fred, many friends, and the entire Garden family during this most difficult time.
I always enjoyed when Don would drop in to the Training Centre at Topple Dr.. Many conversations were held around whats new in the Telco world and always shared stories about back in the day, current events, family, and of course hockey.
Don was truly a class act and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. RIP my friend.

Life is difficult to understand sometimes, for Don had a lot of road left to walk. If I was talking to Don he would likely say something smart-assed and correct me to say "stroll" instead of walk, because he really did enjoy life. I grew to know Don over the many years he was with Tii and helped us at SaskTel. Again, I don't say worked because work was something you had to do, and Don enjoyed his time with Tii. He would drop me a call at all times of the day, and I would always ask him if he ever stopped working? He would always laugh that laugh of his, and remark something like, "work?!, this ain't workin, I'm livin the dream." Then we'ld spend the little while shooting the breeze. I'll miss his laugh, his smart-remarks, and his friendship. I'll take away fond memories, his approach to life and maybe a thing or two about telecom that he shared during our journey together. He was truly one of those "broke the mold" type of guys and I'm the richer for having known him.

Don was a big part of our family for years and he will be truly missed. He had a heart as big as all outdoors. He was extremely good to our Mom. He visited her at least once a week and he called her almost everyday, even when he was travelling. He would bring her cornbeef and cabbage and turkey dinner, lemon pie (he made himself) and coconut cream, her favorite. He would help her put her puzzles together when she got stuck and he mowed her lawn for her, as well. I know he'll always be with the ones he loved the most, especially Josh and Blair. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our hearts struggle with the sudden passing of Don!! We will forever cherish the memories of the time shared!! Don’s life was his family…the pride shown when he would speak of Josh!! How he would light up when he would speak of Baby Blair…oh how he loved his little Angel!!! The special bond with his twin ….two peas in a pod..John and Don!! Don’s joy for life was infectious….we all know he loved to tease…..however, when the serious side was required or the compassionate side needed it came out 10 fold!! Don Garden…one in a million!!! I know Don will find a way to have his “heaven & earth” going forward! I can see him catching up with all who have gone before and still smiling down to protect and encourage his family here! If anyone can and will give signs it will be Don! We love you Don Garden and we thank you for being the absolute best!! “Double cousins forever!!!” Love, Debra & Mike xoxo

To Josh, Kass, Blair and to all of Don’s family
There are not enough words to express our deepest condolences to all of you. Don was truly one of a kind, with a big heart, who would do anything for anyone. We will miss his drop in visits, random calls and all the laughs we have had over the years. He became a part of our family, someone you could count on. From helping us when Dwight had his surgeries, to helping move my dad, he was always there to help. My Dad also has fond memories. They had a great relationship because of the rivalry between their favourite hockey teams, Dads being the Toronto Maple Leafs and Don’s love of the Bruins. Don actually gave Dad a soother at the end of last season, when the Leafs lost. He was planning on somehow getting that soother, back to Don, when this season began, and their bantering would continue. For myself, his visits at what he called “the best post office in Stewiacke “ will be missed by not only me, but the rest of my “work” family. He would often treat us with tea or coffee, and we always looked forward to that “special” coffee delivered to us around Christmas time.
He always looked for that reaction when he would say something whitty, waiting for a laugh and especially for an even better response. He loved fun.
He was so proud of his family and especially his granddaughter, Blair, showing us many pictures and videos.
He will be surely missed but never forgotten, he will always have a special place in our hearts forever
Thinking about all of you at this most difficult time, his memories will live forever in your hearts
Love Leta and Dwight Isenor

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. I worked with Don at Tii Technologies for the last 8 ½ years. Don was an exceptional work colleague! It was a pleasure to get his phone calls so he could tell me the same joke every call. (I will keep the joke between Don and me) I had the pleasure of meeting Don in person on a number of occasions and even went as far as getting a passport to help him with a show in Canada, that ended up not taking place due to COVID. My last text with Don was a picture of his son and new granddaughter with the caption, “I love this picture. Don will be missed by all his friends at Tii. Rest in Peace Don.

To the family of Don Garden:
Very sorry for your loss. Over the years I played hockey with both Don and John and as well played
against them. They were two of the finest hockey
Players to come out of East Hants.

To Don and family, most sincere and deep sympathies from Kevin, Kim, Sam and Ryan. Ryan texted to let us know about Don’s passing. Don was a huge part of our lives in east hants hockey. Don spent countless hours on the ice with kids helping to boost their skills and confidence always with a sense of humor and fun. We travelled to rinks all across the maritimes and have wonderful memories. Condolences to all the Garden family, The Dodges.

My deepest condolences to John, Fred, Josh, and the entire Garden family. I was heartbroken to hear about Don's passing. Over the past twenty years, I've enjoyed many conversations with him, both about work and just catching up. He always had a way of making me laugh with his witty and sassy personality. I will truly miss those calls.
Josh, your Dad was incredibly proud of you and his entire family. He beamed with pride at being a grandfather. Remember, while your Dad may not be physically present, look for signs of him. He'll always be close

I don’t even know where to start. Don and I go back over 20 years from our days at MTT, Aliant, Bell Aliant. I knew absolutely nothing and I learned quickly that if you wanted the right answer, that you called Don or at least go find one of the Gardens! As the years went along, this never changed but I got to know Don more and more not just in a work capacity but personally as well. It was amazing to hear how much he did in his community and learn more about the Garden family. He was so proud of Josh but always spoke highly of the rest of the family too. He was so excited about being a grandfather. Our friendship really strengthened once Don landed at TII. We would get together regularly and cover off the work stuff but honestly getting together was about our friendship. Always amazing chats usually leading to him giving me advice even when I thought that advice was bonkers sometimes. Haha. What a character! I will forever cherish those times together.
My sincere condolences to Josh and the entire family. I’m struggling knowing that I am going to be in Europe for his celebration of life Oct 5. I will be tuning in remotely for sure but will be there in spirit. Sending you all my love and best wishes. Hugs xo.

I meet Don some ten years ago at Wightman Telecom when we were looking for MDU solutions. Don was able to help and assist me in making them a standard and they’re still in use today. For many years between now and then he became not just a sales guy but a great friend. Someone I could call with an idea or a listening ear for any issues I had in copper or fibre. Fast forward many years later after I left Wightman he still called, we still went out for lunch and instead of talking about work it was about our families. He was so very proud of Josh and his accomplishments but being a grandfather was a new adventure he was very excited about. To his family, thank you for sharing Don with us he was our expert, our friend and we all send our sincere condolences to all of you.

Sending sincere condolences to all the family in the passing of Don.
I have so many fond memories of our families growing up together in Enfield, where it was always 'Don & John'; to adult years and being around the rink with my husband Peter, and our children too.
Don was a dedicated volunteer within the East Hants hockey world, and has left a great legacy. He will be missed!
May the love and support of family, friends and community bring comfort to you all in the sad days ahead.
Take care and God Bless you all,
Michelle, Peter, Jodi, Trevor & Ian

Don's positive spirit and the enjoyable company he provided has left a lasting impact that will continue to be cherished by all of us who had the pleasure of his friendship.
